So I just watched the latest webisodes- And at one point Jeanettes sister said that when she started scrapbooking she took the "8 Standards for Scrapbooking" and ran with them... SO!
Can anyone tell me what those are?
(I didn't want to post this under the "webisodes section" cause I felt like it was a very newbie'ish question... and well that's totally what I am...)

P.S. HI! Everyone! =o)

I have no idea..but I would guess that's the very basic things...like... always use acrhival/acidsafe stuff, when in doubt, pick colors from the photos, always mat your photos, always include title, photos and journaling, 3rd rule and so on..?

Sooooo... Maybe this isn't such a newbie question afterall?! =o)
I will go ahead and post this question under the webisode section and see if we can get the specifics from one of The Fashionistas or BigSis herself ;c)

Thanks for all your help so far! And the warm welcome! =o)

NOT a newbie question at all. In fact it is already being requested (to find out what the 8 things are) on at least 2 other threads that I know of!)

On one thread Diane, JJ's sister, said she would see if it would be okay to list 'em here on SIS somehow, so hang tight...

I have no idea what Jeanette was talking about. It's probably in a scrapbooking book that I missed. But don't tell, I think I'm supposed to know stuff like that and I don't. Like, in Chicago half the time I was like "Oh, THAT is how you use that? Oh THAT is what that tool does?"

I only found two.
They were: use balance (left to right) and (up and down)
and positioning the center of your photo (say the eyes) in certain places. I think it was something like this: Divide your sheet (mentally) into 3 equal sections horizontally and vertically and were those points meet you should place the eyes in your photo or the most important part of your photo.
I hope I didn't mess that up and I hope you understand.

I always thought there were no rules in scrapping - I just go with the flow but do use the 6 Design Principles?

Balance
Perspective
Harmony
Unity
Movement
Variety

There is a really good site that explains these 6 principles well.
Its here if you want to see, but Im not sure this is what the 8 standards are?????

how funny. i wondered the same thing when i saw the episode. and, quite frankly was too shy to ask. i thought the whole "anything goes" was the motto. Well, I will be tuned in to finally find out. It's nice to know we're all on the same page (lol).

I have been wondering what they are for a while now, I knew that there were other threads on this as well.

i think what bellacarta is talking about is the Rule of Thirds in photography.

i have no idea what the "8 standards" are i will definately be checking back to see if there is an answer for this. i never knew there were any rules or standards but then again i have been scrapbooking since the 90's when there was pretty much just cheap paper at wal mart to use.

There are rules in everything, the question is do you want to follow them?

As we have become more evolve and have more graphic artist entering our hobby.
They bring a wealth of info of do's and don't. Some are great and some are erroneous.
For example loads of info about type circulating on blogs etc.. are wrong if you have never taken typography, then you think it's correct.

At the end of all these, I wonder how many of my grandchildren are going to care if I use and follow today's principles.
Or are they going to be so glad to know about my present life that it won't matter a generation from now :)

Yes that is pretty close to what Diane told me. Diane is JJ's awesome wonderful amazing real life big Sister who had these 8 standards explained to her by the wonderful JJ.
