I'm trying to get back into scrapbooking after a long break, and I just don't know where to start on a layout. I've seen so much inspiration that it's so tempting just to lift other people's LOs but I want to do stuff on my own completely from scratch so I can see what my style is. I'm looking at all my supplies and have no idea where to start...what to put on the page, where to put it...nothing. Any advice?

just start!
start ripping or cutting and placing things on the page
i'm a big believer that the more you play the more you learn

hey i also think that to get you going again it's ok to do a little scrapjacking :)
lift a couple pages and it will get those creative juices flowing again.
do a few challenges Take Sarah's challenge here at SIS tv or go to ScrapJacked or One LIttle Word
it will help you get in the groove again :)
WELCOME to SIS tv!!!

Challenges are a great place to start like Courtney suggested. You get a little guidance with the challenges that can get your mojo going. And there are plenty of challenges around!

yes. challenges.
or i got back into it by picking my FAVORITE photos and working with those only. if you like what you are scrapping it is easier. don't worry about getting all the photos done. just the fun ones.

I usually find that when I am really low on mojo that if I pick someone elses layout and start out intending to scraplift it, by the time I go to attach things I have totally changed it and it looks nothing like the layout I was scraplifting.

I took a long break too... I started again by lifting some pages, mini-albums... And add some things of myself on it.. change a little etc... the creativity bursted out and now I CAN"T STOP IT LOL...
The easiest way is to lift something... And before you know it'll turn out a WHOLE different...
good luck

I scraplifted until I became comfortable to try new things and now, I use other LO's for inspiration, but I am doing my own thing. HTH

I'm late again on this, but I had a scrapbreak for about 18 months so I'm feelin your pain.
I gathered up all my basics (cutter, adhesive, marker) and then pulled whatever in my stash caught my eye (just a few things). Grabbed some new pics and limited myself to work with only the things I chose until I ran out of materials. A personal kit of the month if you will. It was a good warm up for me I need some boundaries cuz I was overwhelmed. I still do this every once in a while when I feel the need.

I have to say scrap shopping (finding new or different things) really gets my creative juices going.
And all just browsing the gallery here...it's awesome. So many creative women..and men...all in one place!!

I was in a very similiar situation and just getting a layout done helps get you in the groove. I started with some newer photos and newer supplies just to get myself excited. As I started to do a few more layouts, it got easier. I know what you mean though about not wanting to scraplift and do your own thing because I was the exact same way!

Kitty's book (shown in the webisode-I got it as a gift over a month ago) is a great book for this subject. :)
I found that I was fitting in to a style set forth by "the rules". Scrap in style was a big part of my finding my own way. And letting change with my moods too!
Things like "Sketches" are great, but the funnest part for me has been just doing what hits me! Sometime I use a formula and do a simple layout with lots of pictures, and sometimes I go crazy and use no scrapbook supplies at all!
Have fun "rediscovering" your style!
