I take pics too--I tack up a white sheet of "kraft" wrapping paper, then I temporarily stick my layout on it at "eye level". I break out my tripod, take a picture straight on. I use the white background because after, when I take it to my computer to crop out the background, I can do some autocorrecting (exposure, color, etc) a bit easier if I have something that is "supposed to be white" that I can click on outside of the layout to sort of color wash it. Started to get pictures that looked a lot more like they looked in real life that way since being in Seattle, although cloudy skies are supposed to be better for taking pictures than bright sunny days, that means I have a small window (usually while I'm at work) to get shots before the natural light goes away. I'm more a Digital Image Suite gal, so I use that for this whole process.

I take pictures....and I don't stress over getting them very straight or perfect. I crop them. This is the only place I upload my lo's. Not trying to get published or anything, so I really don't worry about how perfect it looks....obviously if you've seen my gallery.
I do try to use natural light, though.
I don't even own a scanner. If my husband doesn't insist on new gadgets, we probably don't have it. I'm a geek that way. Not into technology. I probably wouldn't have a cell phone, a big screen t.v. or a computer if it wasn't for my hubby. (and yet I use the computer more than him!!) lol! Oh, I did insist on my digital camera, though. However, I still use my 35 mm a lot. (It's a good one and the pictures ROCK!)

I wish a company would make a 12x12 or larger scanner that isn't thousands of dollars. maybe we all need to email HP and ask for one!

usually just take a photo
but if you really need a good copy
you can take it to local print shop
color copy at 70% print on legal size paper
it comes out just the right proportions for your scanner

yup i just take pics with my digital camera b/c my scanner can't hold my 12 x 12 which are usually 2 pagers of the 12 x 12

I actually do both. I think the scanned image is so much more professional but it always seems so dark and I hate adjusting the brightness because it throws the color off everytime. So now, I wait for a sunny day, and add both to show great examples both ways. :)
My fav stitching program is Arcsoft Panoramic 3
(there may be a newer version out now)

scan and stitch takes too long IMO so i photgraph them. easy peesy just like PW said.

I usually scrap 8.5 X 11 so I just scan my layouts. But, my scanner is sick up at the moment. :( It might be terminal. I do not want to buy another one!
