A story and a question...

I started scrapbooking in 94 after two friends and I went to Venezuela. They each had cameras and I didn't, so I got both sets of doubles. Way too many pictures, so I chose and cropped and got creative with paper, page protectors and a regular binder...

I'm still doing 8.5x11, but thinking about 12x12 lately. Can I get your advice on what you like about the sizes, doing both (?), or anything you think I might need to hear?

Thanks! Nice to be part of a community where I can pick my SISta's brains!

Lately for digi I've been doing 8.5 x 11 - it seems a lot easier to fill up the space in the smaller size.

But for paper I like 12 x 12 because I wouldn't know what to do with all the scraps from trimming it down to size.

It just depends. And if you do both sizes (in paper) you could get one of those AC binder albums and mix both sizes so you're not limited to doing one size.

HTH!

I scrap since 2004 and started with 8.5 x 11 and I never changed. I'm tempted though to try a couple 12x12 layouts because I think it could gvie me some input in design :)

I love 12x12 best. I cannot seem to fit what I want in anything less. mini books kind of frustrate me too! ;)

I bought a 12x12 American Crafts 3 ring album, and it holds all sizes, even a 6x6, so whenever I feel like scrappin' 8.5x11 which actually is the majority I do, but if I have a ton of pictures and a 12x12 would work better I can :) It's a very convenient feature :)

I do both!! I just add in the smaller page protectors to my 12x12 albums. I also do 6x12. I love switching it up to different size formats, it totally helps to stop scrapblock! Plus 6x12 stretches the precious hambly & scenic route further...LOL!

I agree with all the above girlies :)

I personally like both
and throw them both into the same album.

cause there aren't any rules in scrapbooking.
do what you want when you want!!!

me, too.
I use AC 3 rings and do 12x12, 8x8, 81/2x11, 81/2x11 landscape and 6x12 all in the same album. no worries about fit, just choose the size that works best for that page/picture and add it in when I'm done. Best thing I EVER started doing. no boundaries.

I love them both, I have seperate albums but that's because the smaller binders are much cheaper here... I can buy them as office bulk instead of the 12x12 that gets imported from the US.. :-)

I do a lot of 12x12 but I think that my favorite is 8.5x11, sometimes I just cut it to 8.5x12 too.......I'm lazy, lol!!

I love to use the rule of thirds in my designs and that rectangle shape seems to work best for me when doing that...

I'm an 8.5X11 girl. Pretty much always have been. My wedding album and heritage book is 12X12 but everything else is 8.5X11. It works better for me for scanning, uploading and making color copies for family and friends so that works best...for me. I also find a 12X12 page is just so big and hard to fill!

...ok, I see this thread is a couple of weeks old, but I just wanted to tell you that a couple of months ago, I converted to mixed-sizes - and really, I have never been happier with scrapbooking :D
Now, I do exactly the size I want for that particular layout, depending on the pictures, the story, the mood - everything :) It is so fun and I really recommend it ;)

I do 12x12, letter and 6x12, all mixed, and it is sooo fun :D

I do a mix of everything as well. Depends on how many pics I have and the idea in my head. I just started doing 8x11 and I do like it for my smaller pics and when I don't feel like "filling" space on a 12x12. I say do what you want, who cares! :)

Since I started scrapbooking I've pretty much been a 12x12 girl and have never considered scrapping any other size (except for mini books). But sometimes I work on layouts and think that it would work better on a smaller page. Now that I have the AC three ring binders, I might actually try it.
