WOOHOO!! i'm thrilled to be this weeks guest judge!! there were so many amazing entries for this weeks challenge, it was very difficult to choose just one. but based on the "avant garde" part of the challenge, {is it wrong that i didnt' know what that meant either? :\}, i HAD to go with this one because she most definitely used something in a way it was not intended to be used! the amount of time and energy this must have taken...... WOW! :) and i really think this one could very well be a trendsetter. it won't be long before we start seeing this everywhere!
winner # 4 is this most innovative beauty! seriously. i want to know how long it took her to glue those suckers down! ;)
so... you know how i said that it was difficult to chose just one? i wasn't kidding people! while the official winner is the one above, i have to give a shout out to just a few others that rocked the "avant garde"ness:
marshavalk - LOVE the stitching & the look of the photo on the PP
scrappykea - NEVER would've thought of using that as a background!
tallynt - that's alot of shredding, yo. BRILLIANT!
SmllChng - ok. i have bags of those little suckers from when my girls were little. never would've thunk to put them on a LO! :)
CONGRATS to all of this week's winners! and to all of you that participate in these challenges week after week, stretching your creative mind in ways you never thought possible. can't wait to see what tonight's challenge will be! :D
GO GO project catwalk! :D

:) I cut up the straws while watching TV, so it took a little more time than if I was only snipping. But I believe it was over the course of 4 or 5 Smallville episodes (from last season's box set) without commercials. So.. like 3 hours for that (divided attention). As for the placing... that took about 40ish minutes I think. The adhering? That took awhile. I placed a drop of clear liquid glue in each straw... because if I had done the swipe and place method, there would be no way to adjust the individual pieces if I didn't like where they ended up. I thought about trying to put a sheet of tape over it and pick them all up at once, spread glue and put it back down... but then how would I get them off the sticky sheet? And they're all different heights, so it probably wouldn't have picked them all up anyways. So.. the attaching... took about 2 hours. For a total of 5.5 hours. (Again - the cutting of the straws could have been done a lot faster.)
I don't know if I'd make a straw-image that large again.. maybe something smaller. Then it'd be easier to glue down.
