Whoever does not think that Scrappin' is a form of art is, in my opinion, quite frankly, smokin' some pretty heavy crack! ;) Big SIS, I think you are awesome!

I have really enjoyed your webisodes so far but I am totally shocked that you said "that is so GAY" at the end of the one with Kristina and that she then repeated it. I'm not sure if you realize how absolutely offensive that is to people who are gay. I'm sure you wouldn't call her a Jew if she was cheap and think it was funny. I'm sure you did not do it conciously but I had to speak up and say it is offensive and not a nice thing to say. I would think you should even go to the extend of cutting it out of the end of that clip.

I think her "message" is more about doing what you want, how you want, and why you want, instead of trying to fit inside a box that you will never be comfortable in.

some people are CM style scrappers. Some follow designer scketches to a "T". Some follow trends, some think outsode the box, some go with the flow. I think what is most important is that we are all in this for a reason, and for some reason we have all been brought together because of it. Nobody should hate on anyone else. We're all in this together :P

Thanks for clarifying, Big SIS! I have to say I was a little concerned and quite nervous at the thought of showing my "art". I am my own worst critic and am generally never happy with what I create, and no one ever sees it except the people I make it for (I have yet to make something for myself...how lame is that?!) Lucky for me, they can appreciate the time & effort & LOVE that was poured into it, even if they don't like it.

The very definition of art is "using creativity to make something which reflects the artist's soul"... and that is what we do. Big SIS, your work IS ART, on any level, because it reflects your soul! Don't think of yourself as a "regular ol scrapper". You are far from "regular"! Look what you have created! YOU did this & we are all so happy you did!

I don't think there should be different "classes" of scrapbookers (that's what I thought the interview was implying). I'm grateful I have SO many diverse styles of art to be inspired by. Like bzzyfingers says, "We're all in this together."

Anyway, thanks again! And Happy Hump Day to you all!! :-)

Oh my goodness! You know, I honestly have never even thought that when I use the word gay for slang that it's somehow referring to homosexuals. You are totally right when you say it was not conscious. I just thought of it as meaning "that's lame"...but now that I think about it there's not really a definition of the word gay that even would make sense in the context of my sentence. It's pretty dumb to be saying words when you really don't know what they mean. It's just like habit. I am so sorry that I said something offensive like that. I will definitely have the webisode edited.

Please know that I would never intentionally say anything that would be considered derogatory to anyone, that's totally against my beliefs as a Christian and just as a person in general. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

JJ

Aww, thanks! You know you're right! Art is in the eye of the beholder, dang it! LOL If it's an expression of who I am and I was creative then I'm an artist! Yay! I'm an artist!! LOL

I am sorry I did not see this earlier or I would have responded immediately.

To be honest, I cringed at the end of my interview, because I do feel what was said was innapropriate. While "gay" is also slang for "lame" or "cheesy" it does not mean it is acceptable. I grew up in an environment where this type of terminology was widely used and unfortunately now as an adult...old habits die hard. I try to correct the bad patterns but sometimes things just rear their ugly heads.

I apologize, and OF COURSE DID NOT mean it in a derogitory way. Some of my best friends are homosexuals and I love them dearly.

And in reference to my "art" I think what Jeanette was getting at is that I am not afraid to try new things and take creative risk. Anyone who evokes meaning through mediums is an artist to me ;)

I am glad that my SISters feel comfortable sharing here, without fear of persecution. Thank you for your honesty and for asking questions :)
