I am a beginner creative photographer, currently just learning how to take good pictures and do some basic editing using PSE. A lot of my photos look great "right out of the camera" and some need a little help. I don't know if I really have the eye to edit pictures to perfection!

Do you have the eye for it?
Was it natural or learned?

Thanks!

I think I naturally have an eye for it but I still practice ALL the time. :)

i don't have an eye for it either...i see lots of photos that i think look great but i don't know what all to look for. i know the obvious of red eye and sharpness but others...i don't even think to look for...hopefully after taking courtney's class, my eye for things will improve!

do you mean an eye for getting a good shot or the editing?

for me i think i've always had a bit of an eye for getting a good composition with a photo. once i learned the technical aspects of exposure and such it all kind of came together. i'm still learning a lot every time i shoot though. i hope i always will. now as far as the editing i've learned most of it through just playing with everything and through that learned what looks best.

It's a good eye, that comes with practice. Lots and lots of practice.

Over the last few months I have been taking a keen interest in my photography. I think I partially have an eye for it lol.

I'm just learning about editing photographs and would love to learn more.

I' am learning every day just by doing it.

And in september i go back to school for lessons in photography, so i can get the most out of my camera

i think having an eye is inherent for composition - even though it can be learned, I think sometimes it still looks forced and technical.
Don't know if that makes sense?

I used to try and frame all my photos as i took them, but now I just keep my camera on the highest resolution setting it has (with a 4GB SD disk of course) so I can crop my photo in photoshop to make it more pleasing.

Anything can be learned but i still think some people have a more natural ability.

that's true, some people have almost always pictures that are out of focus, but they can learn how to use the camera, so that they make sharper pictures.
When you want to make pictures that are catching you must have some talent or make a lucky shot :)

I think yes some people have an eye for it. They are able to capture images that are just stunning. But, learning can only enhance what you have naturally. And for those who don't have it naturally, then learning helps you find what's naturally hidden. :)

I think there's something beautiful about images without editing. :) Photography is still an art alone without digital additions.

So, if you have less editing needed that's great, makes your work less

even in the days of film, photographers would manipulate things to look a certain way in the darkroom. with technology, we just make that decision on the computer instead. i agree that there are shots that look great sooc, but if you can digitally enhance something from so-so to amazing, why not?? just my 2 cents.

That is true, no matter what when developing you have to figure out the right exposure to paper, development time, what filter to use, etc..
But, I was more talking about cropping and taking a nicely exposed image. :)

There's definitely nothing wrong with digital enhancement.

I agree......
Once you master that, it makes editing a lot easier.

I started with a real dark room and worked with film. I love film and that helps to understand how a camera works and functions. It helped me when I learned photoshop later.

I' am learning every day just by doing it.

I think this is the best way to do this!! Practice practice practice and shoot shoot shoot.

That being said, I have a friend who buys the most expensive equipment available and has absolutely no eye whatsoever. I think that lots of people think that buying the best will make them great photographers, kwim?

I feel like scrappers, with an eye for design and page composition, usually have "the eye" for photography too!

I agree that scrappers seem to have a natural eye so you're halfway there! I think alot of great photos are because you captured something that others just may not have seen so take the time and look around for an interesting shot.

I don't always have the right eye straight from the viewfinder, but I can say I know exactly how to crop a photo to make it look right on my computer afterwards
