this sounds like a good thing to have! sadly I don't use a font manager. I'll keep my eye on this thread though....

i've never really understood what a font manager is for
i just type my text, highlight it and then scroll thru all my fonts to find one i want to use
how does a font manager help doing that?

a font manager does let you look at your fonts. similar to what you're saying.. but there are a few more good things for it.

For example I believe if you have more than 500 fonts installed it really slows your computer. So a font manager allows you to review your fonts w/o having them installed. With the font thing I could create collections for each project. So, i may have several projects going at once, instead of installing all of the fonts every time. I can install and uninstall by the project I'm working on. The collection thing really has a lot of advantages.

hmm.
i've got a lot of fonts but i don't think there are that many
might be nice to keep the ones i use a lot on my system with all the others in a font manager.
that would give me more space and possible run faster. is that right?

well if you don't have over 500 you may not be feeling an impact. But from what I've been reading and understanding yes it would help.

I just like the organizational capabilities of a font manager. I've actually been reviewing and reading up and it looks like for open source the Font thing is still recommended. But there's a paid program called Font Agent. I think though before I invest I'd turn to the LinoType Font manager, I guess when it's rereleased.

But, that's the recent research I have done the last few days.

This probably doesn't help you, but there's a great online browser that detects the fonts in your system so that you can see them all. But it doesn't do the installing/uninstalling stuff....
