Hey girlie...Is it in photoshop?
If so, hubs says there are so many things that could have gone wrong, you could be using white? You might be on a layer that is locked or hidden?
He needs more info :)

Hi, Ashley! I have PSE, but it may be similar. Don't forget that you'll want to add a layer 1st before using your brush. It sounds, tho, like you're trying to stamp on a layer underneath what's showing on your screen...
I'm am NO expert, but that sounded right, anyway! HTH!

When you say sparkly outline, are you talking about a kind of flashing dotted line? If i'ts not a layer problem (look at the layers palette on the right), I believe you may not be using the brush tool. Several of the other tools look similar to the brush tool and use the brush shapes, so double check that you have the brush tool selected.
Also, if you can take a screen shot and share it, one of us can probably help you out!

AShers I think you are clicking the wrong brush tool :) I forget what it is called since I don't use elements but I did it too at jjs the other day and the same thing happened and I freaked out.
go look at the digi blog- I have a screenshot of the brush tool you are supposed to pick. the one you are picking makes the sparkly outline, but it is not the right one :) You want just the plain brush tool

AW,
Sounds like you may have selected the Selection Brush and not the Paint Brush....
