I can never decide how I should organize them so that I can then find them on my machine.
Any suggestions.

I have mine by Designer....I buy from the same girls all the time so it's just easier for me that way.
I used to do it by store but that turned out to be a mess...LOL I didn't think about how often people move around.
I know a lot of girls use the ACDC thing now... I've never tried it though.

What is that? I like the idea of organizing it by designer. That is a good idea.

I have mine in different catagories in my softwares organizer...like patterned paper and then, dots, stripes, holidays (done in subcatagories)..
it works for me, but just like traditional scrapping, it's an endless dilemma!

Oh, goodie! An organization question! :)
I have a TON of stuff and here's what I do. First, I do have ACDSee - it's WONderful because it allows you to see everything you have without having to go through every folder - but you do have to go to the "trouble" of linking everything you have to it. It's VERY easy, though. And what you SEE, you USE! (Just like in paper scrapping!)
I download everything into a folder called New Digi Downloads, which is in a folder called, not surprisingly, scrapbooking. In that same SB folder, I also have a folder for each designer or author, if they're not with a multi-web site. Within each designer (such as designerdigital.com) I have the authors listed.
After I've downloaded - I make sure I do this within 24 hours - I open up ACDSee and it's set to automatically open up that New Digi Dowload folder. From there I simply extract the folders to the correct designer/author in my SB folder AND at the same time, I go through each element and link it to each reference I want to that I've set up in ACDSee. For example, if I've downloaded a digi kit by Katie Pertiet from designerdigitals.com, I will link every item in the kit to the author and then I will do each individual item as it fits - papers to papers (sorted by color and various other categories like stripes, solids, etc.), frames to embellishments:frames; alphies to alphies (though I only link ABC and 123 or else you'd have a zillion in there - then I can find them all by cross referencing; template to templates, overlays to overlays, you get the idea. You can link one item 10 different ways if you want. If I have a flower, I link it to my flowers category and also my stickers category, and so on.
THEN, when I want to do a page, I open PSE5.0 and ACDSee and if I want a blue paper, I click on blue paper. I can narrow it down to dotted blue papers. If I want a journaling spot, I open those up and can see all I have (as long as I've linked 'em!) As I select items to use, I put them in ACDSee's image basket and from there you just move them right into PSE.
Okay, have I confused you terribly? It's a great program, well worth the money.
Feel free to pm me if you want more info... Jan

So if something were to happen to to the program....what would happen to all your supplies? Or do you just have to back them up JIC? Would you have to do the organizing all over again?
That's the only bad thing about digital.....if I buy something at the LSS and bring it home...it's HERE, waiting for me to scrap. (Or just to stare at lovingly...hehe) When you buy something digitally and intend on KEEPING said product for eternity you have to do 8 different steps to ensure your products are safe.

I organize by designer too.
I tried a trial of ACDSee but I never did tag all my stuff. I have too many! And I was too lazy...
But the way it is now, I know I under-use a lot of my stuff. One day I will try to be organized!

It's a good idea to make back up copies of your digi elements, just as you do your photos. The cool thing about ACDSee, though, is that it just views what you have - it doesn't copy it all into the program. So if the program crashes, you haven't lost a thing. (Also, it takes up less space this way).
I have to admit, Cathy, that I got ACDSee early on in my digi scrap life. So it was never a big deal to tag everything - I didn't have that much stuff then. I can see how monumental of a task it would be to tag everything if you've been digi scrapping for a long time. (Because digi elements are VERY inexpensive - and often free - and, well it's just like paper scrapping, you want more and more!) :)
One of the things I love about digi is that when you buy something - it's yours in an instant! And you can use it immediately. Believe me, there's almost if not just as much fun in getting a new digi kit as there is in getting 3-D stuff! :)
Really, there's not 8 steps to saving it. I download, extract, tag - that's it. And when I back up my photos, I just back up my digi files, too. Easy peasy! :)
I love having a digi option. I will NEVER go all digi or ever be all paper again. I'm both - forever! :)

Wow pascrapgal, I am impressed! You are uber organized. I am still in the tinkering stages of digi and came onto this thread to get some ideas myself. What wonderful info here.

Thank you so much for the info... I think I might check that out now. I just never really heard any specifics on it. It might keep me from shopping EVERYTIME I need to scrap. Then again...that's part of the fun.
I don't know if I can commit that kinda time to organizing...LOL I'm horrible. ;) I've been digital for 2 years now and I JUST (2 days ago) went through and set all my previews as the folder image. I really thought I was accomplishing something!!!

Just do 15 mins of organising each day, then it won't seem like such a mammoth task!!

I organize my stuff like melanie M one folder for everything, but I am thinkin this ACDsee is going to be the way to go as my hard drive is gonna get slow and my dh is gonna drive me crazy being all concerned about everything on my laptop. Also it is so funny because I can control myself a lot easier with digi scrapping and using what is in my collection. I think I don't over buy because I don't get that feeling that If I don't buy now then I won't have it when I need it..I can just go to the website and BOOM I have it!!! But that is not to say I have abandoned the traditional method. I am just so thankful there is a place we can all get together and talk digi. Jolene

Jan.....can you come organize me?!? OMG woman, I am just going crazy with your organization!! LOL I am still fairly new to digi, and I had all of my stuff in a desk top file organized by category, color, etc. but it is really hard, and I can never figure out where I got it, or where I put that "really cool element perfect for this page" and I have to go through all of my files...by that time I just wanna go back to my paper! LOL.

i organize mine by designer - the folder lists the website I got them from. It makes it easier to credit that way.

Does ACDSee have a Mac version? If not, what do you Mac users use for organization?

I have tried to organize a couple times & gave up... I'll have to try this program. Does it keep the designers with it? I was afraid to organize by embellishments, paper, "stickers"...etc. because I wouldn't know who to credit. Is there a way to find the designer if I renamed files?

I have two catalogs in my Photoshop Organizer...one is for photos and one is for scrapbook supplies. I bring them in the organizer and just tag them by designer (and kit name), elements, and colors. Patty Debowski taught me that!! :) Then, as I download new kits I can add them pretty easily. Now, to just start playing with all those downloaded kits. :)
