Today and yesterday I had orientation (tomorrow too). I'm a transfer student so I have to go through this process all over again. Turns out though that I actually have 33 credits which puts me ahead of the game and I'm still a sophomore...YAY!
Well today I got to meet with the other transfer students who are in the same field of study (they don't have majors/minors), Religious Studies, and we also met with an advisor to discuss the classes. So I made up a tentative schedule that I will further go over privately with my advisor tomorrow and then I get to register!
Here are the classes (19 credits, yes I'm crazy)
Women Made Media Global Perspective
African American Religions
Shaman and the Buddha
Some other feminism class that I can't remember
Jewish History from Abraham to America

So now tell me all about the first week of school for you!

19 credits?!! whoa!

i am only taking 6 this semester-so two classes. i work one full time job and a part time so not a lot of time to spare and although schools important, i hv to work :/ i might ditch the part time though.

anway...tomorrow is my first day of school-i go in the afternoon right after my first job. i am nervous though.
ive been in school on and off since '03 and still at a comm college. i know...sucks. but i hv to take it slow. i might get xfr to a university as soon as summer/fall of '09 though!! woohoo!
school tuition-which i pay on my own-and books is kicking my behind though.

i met with an advisor at the beginning of summer 08 semester and she told me to take a class-took it and i found out when i met with a new advisor for this fall semester she told me the wrong class!! grrr...time and money wasted.

and fear of failure.

I feel for you, my BF is in the same position and it's killing him. I really respect you for managing your time so well and working 2 jobs and going to school, it sure is hard work.

Oh and as for that advisor, ugh, most of them seem to be that oblivious, I don't know why!

Oh and as far as books, my new school doesn't even have a bookstore, they just told us today that we should go to the local Barnes and Noble...ha

What are you going to school for?

thank you. it is hard :/ i have failed at it before though-i always get caught up with work so thats why the 2nd job has to go.

i know...i know they see thousands of kids but ..wake up!! i have ALL my info with me all the time. they should be able to tell you what is ok and what's not.

ohmy, no bookstore? i wish this was the case with me...i hate when they ask for new editions when they really aren't new...just the covers change. so expensive!

umm, bc i feel like ive been in school for so long, i kinda lost passion and perspective for anything really. ive changed my major so many times it's crazy-im not sure.
to be honest, right now, i don't even know. i hv to chose by next semester though.

my first day of class was yesterday.
i'm taking:
teaching geometry for teachers
health education (how to teach health)
a how to teach reading class
physics for teachers
educational psychology

i'm in my last semester as a junior, so i'm just ready for it to be over. i do have pretty much all my classes with the same group of friends, so that's really nice, and we all have the same breaks. but as far as the going to class and everything that goes with that, i'm over it.

Today was my second day of my fifth year of college. :)
I've got...
Contract Documents (drafting and rendering basically)
History of Interior Design
Specifications for Interiors
and Survey of Art History

I'm seriously so done with school.
It's getting really old now.
:P

allison- ahhh
ahhh
ahhh
sorry, that was my reaction to the words 'geometry' and 'physics'-now you see why i'm liberal arts? the rest sounds fun, well the part with being in class with friends and breaks and all the cool stuff

mandi- i take it your in school for interior design? lol
i loved my art history survey course i took last year, so i hope yours is good too. as for the other classes, i can't even imagine what you learn. i guess the history one is self-explanatory, but how much is there to possibly learn on the subject? good luck in them though!

the funny thing is, I was a history major. So I have taken sooo many history classes already. And many art classes. So I'm just like, let's get the studio classes over with so I can graduate already! haha
Yes, I'm doing interior design.
Next summer I will be interning as a space planner at an architecture firm. Interior designer is basically a slightly less intense major than architecture. We get a lot of former architecture students who realize they prefer planning and building interior spaces more than exterior. It's a lot of work.... but I feel so fulfilled where I'm at. :)

That's really great that you're happy with your decision. I actually love history, but moreso world history, not 'the history of such-and-such'. Well I guess I know who to PM when I move next week and need advice and opinions on my place :) I'm moving into a 250 square foot studio, the room is 12x13 and a small bathroom and a small closet.

I so wish I could afford to take a class this fall....I finally have my goal figured out. And, I'm getting close to being able to transfer from community college.

Oh well....it will all work out....

Actually, I'm not exactly an interior decorator. I will be doing floor plans and blue prints for corporate spaces like offices, hospitals, schools, airports, things like that. But I still am interested in decorating too. :)

i would have financial aid if i wouldn't have screwed up this past winter....

and, i could take the class if my unemployment extension could get entered into the computer in a timely fashion.

financial aid is crazy...the last school i was at the set it up so it was near impossible to graduate in four years without taking summer classes. well financial aid doesn't cover summer courses which were insanely expensive and it doesn't cover more than 4 years there. not to mention that i don't even qualify and my scholarship money is less at my new school and the school is even more expensive than my old one.

hilly, it will all work out though, it may just be a real rough road for a while. maybe you can discuss a payment plan with the school? also, online courses are often cheaper.

yep.....i had been through a lot and then at the same time decided to jump in and take 4 classes. needless to say, it didn't work out.

the school does have a payment plan. Half the money now, and half the money a bit later....Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me....

Ya, its part of their history department but can cross reference with religious studies (my "major") and it also can give credit for people who want to "minor" in Jewish studies. I can't wait to take it!

I'm so pumped to move back to school. I go back Tuesday. Yay senior year!

My school is weird with their credit system, transferring in is easy but
transferring out is a headache apparently. Each class is worth 4 credits.

I'm taking: Intro to Visual Communications, Intro to Manigerial Accounting [I think this class is going to make me want to slam my face into walls], Criminology and Child Psychology. Fingers crossed I'll be able to sign into a fifth class, Professional Writing, so I can catch up on my credits.

It should be an interesting semester since I'm not taking any classes in my major.
