I would love to ask someone experienced with this some questions. If you have done the work before, I would love to know how you were trained and if you work on your own or for an agency.
Since my kiddos will both be in school this year, and my family has a strong medical background, this seems like a good fit for me, but I want to do more research first.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Julie, I think you have to go through some training and pass a test to be licensed as a Med Transcriptionist. I am thinking there maybe some online training available. I work for a college with a program and I know one of our grads is working for a company completely online at home and they send her the work to do. I think there are a lot of options with a medical facility or from home.
The medical background is a plus and knowing all the medical terminology is a real plus.
HTH a little!

I used to many years ago. I went to one of those technical schools that promise you a job. The school was kind of a joke but I did learn how to type & do transcription. I only worked in a private physicians office and transcribed chart notes, letters, etc. It would be the perfect kind of work to do from home though.

I'm curious about this too. I'd love to be able to do something from home.

where are u julie?
i am currently in school for office system technology administration/medical option. this is so that i can work in dr's office and such. it is just an associates degree but it is something to me.
i originally wanted to do coding but was told the wrong info.
i talked w/a lady in my town who does medical transcription.
she suggested i talked to someone in our town who helped her get the classes she needed while she worked.
if u have a community college i would call them and ask. or call your local hospital and ask if they have anyone that does that position in the hospital.
i am not sure if every hospital does this but around here u can shadow (i think is what it is called) someone to see if u would want to do that job.
i was thinking of doing it for medical assiting or for an x-ray tech.
good luck!!

I'm curious about this too. I'd love to be able to do something from home.
the lady that i know who does this position does work from home but she has to drive 30 min to the dr's office to pick up the tape or whatever the info is on. then works on it at home and drives back to the dr's office to drop it off. she does this every day, or whatever day she works.
that probably varies from dr. to dr. but i wouldn't want to have to do that!
