I just finished The Beach House by Jane Green. It was a quick fluff novel. Nothing earth shattering.
Last night we met Jennifer Haigh at our book group to discuss her newest book The Condition. It was fun to ask her direct questions about how she develops a story and the characters. She wouldn't tell me her opinion at all thoughabout the story line. She said every book belongs to the reader, uggggggggggg!!!!!!!! For me its kind of like meeting the person who wrote a song that you've always wondered about and when you get a chance to meet the writer but he refuses to tell you his point of view. OK i'm rambling. Off to my next book.

isn't it frustrating?? that's how i feel about lois lowry's the giver. i read an interview with her about how the story ends and she said that she left it to the reader's interpretation and didn't want her opinion to influence anyone else. grrrr.... i just wanted to know her intentions, ya know??
but, i do in a way think it's cool how they want to allow the reader to create their own little world whilst reading the story. i have mixed feelings on it all.

Breaking Dawn
I know....this book took me forever to finish but that is because my husband woke up 3 weeks ago and decided to totally gut our kitchen. So I tried to read in between jobs and when we would finally get to bed...around 12:30-1:00 a.m. I totally loved it!! I too feel that there is plenty of opportunity for her to write more books about different characters.

Allison, The description is as follows:
This highly acclaimed young adult series by irish author Michael Scott- so far consisting of The Alchemyst and The Magician-has been dubbed "the next Harry Potter." Scott melds grand elements of myth and legend with modern-day California and a pair of 15-year-old twins, Josh and Sophie, who are about to stumble into a dangerous world of magic-a world that they themselves may be the key to. When the Codex, an ancient volume of magical wisdom, is stolen, Josh and Sophie join up to find it with Nick Fleming, aka Nicholas Flamel, a 14th century alchemist who has concocted a potion for immortality.
Hope that helps!! I know that I will be adding them to the bookshelves at my middle school this fall!!

okay. i had read that description on goodreads, but the storyline is very similair to harry potter and the sorcerer's stone. same idea, same name.
did j.k. rowling borrow flamel from somewhere else?? or are she and scott working together? that is what had me confused. i can see how it could be the next harry potter, considering that it seems so alike...

There is ANOTHER one called The Alchemist - this one that I read a while back on accident, thinking it was the bestseller with the same title. Anyway, this is a great book, quick and suspenseful. RIYL fantasy, magic. It is not a series.

Hi, can I still join the bookworms? My goal would be 40 books and I just finished no 14 = 14/40. I am now reading Wuthering Heights (guess why?) - it has been lying on my pile of classics but I never had the stamina to actually start, let alone finish it. But since it is Bella's favourite book...

Nicholas Flamel is a historical figure - I guess he caught the imagination of both authors..... hmm...didn't know this. i knew that she got a lot of ideas from mythological creatures and whatnot, but i guess i assumed that she made this character up... now i really want to read the other series, to see his spin on things.
Hi, can I still join the bookworms? of course!

Crow Lake by Mary Lawson
I found myself really liking this book and as some others had stated not sure why...but I wanted, no needed to know how it was all going to end. I've got her next book, "The Other Side of the Bridge" on a hold list at the library so I will be getting it soon. This book only took me a day to read. I love the way the author writes and her main character Kate is who I found so intriguing.

thankyou for the indiebound link. such an interesting site!
My dream if I were to strike it rich tomorrow would be to buy a huge Victorian home and make each room a different genre. I would have a cafe, couches, reading rugs, and just make it very inviting and fun for people. Of course I would be rich so I wouldn't mind very much if people purchased books or not but I would hate it if people could buy the same book from me, an INDEPENDENT bookstore owner, and they choose to buy it from B&N, Amazon, or a box store. So I thought the link was pretty cool and hope that others will see what indie stores are in their area and go give them some local business!!
