updating all your numbers, sorry i've dropped off for a bit - been reading too.

this weekend i finished breaking dawn, in the land of invisible women (memoir set for sept publishing) and Child 44. I highly recommend Child 44 - a suspense/thriller set in 1950s Soviet Union.

The Almost Moon

now i am starting love in the time of chloera (sp)

Traci, I read both of those, I think even in the same order! How did you like The Almost Moon? I thought it was pretty intense. I had a hard time getting through Love in the Time of Cholera, but I'm glad I read it, you know?

It isn't the same genre as Twilight but I still think it is a worthwhile read. I usually will not read Sci Fi but this one pulled me in and really got me thinking about how we all treat each other....very interesting book but you can't really compare Twilight against The Host....same author but two very different books. I totally think you should read it Allison...especially before school starts back up for you!!!!!

Just finished BEAUTIFUL BOY by David Sheff....the father's book from TWEAK. Riveting but hard to read as a parent.

Whew....freaking scary.

Kate, I totally agree with you. I haven't read TWEAK yet, sitting in pile next to bed but I did read BEAUTIFUL BOY a couple months ago. The research that went into this was unbelievable and to read what Meth does to the human brain is devastating!!! Hard read but a very important one for parents of pre-teens/teens!!!

hi mellymel! i saw my name but didn't have a total by it. i didn't want to set a goal, but rather just keep a number of books i've read. so now i'm up to 20. finished breaking dawn. i so wish it wasn't the end, but what can you do?

i need to try out the host. love a good series. so comforting, you know? knowing you can jump right in to the subsequent books without a lot of background details. love that about the twilight, hp, and odd thomas books.

i do love that feeling.

i read an odd thomas book before, and would like to start the series.

Anyone read CHANGE OF HEART by Jodi Picoult?

I usually like her books but I had to give this one up. I was so creeped out by the concept of what was going to happen...forgiveness and redemption taken to an extreme...just couldn't go there. I was about 50 pages in and said...nope.

Oh... I love goodreads!

I am just wondering... a question for those of you who are on there...
When you guys joined... did you only add RECENT reads to your list?
Or anything you can remember ever reading? Your special favorites?

Oh staci thanks for adding me, I am thrilled to have a friend now, LOL.
If anyone else would like to add me, I am Marliese from the Netherlands. :)

I have to check my count too. I think I am at 24/40 but not sure.

Kate:
I read it.
It was the first I read of hers.
I had a hard time at the beginning, but stuck it out.
It actually encouraged me to read more of hers.
but boy was it hard to get through...emotionally.
I am steering clear of any of hers through my pregnancy because I need less emotional stimulation, not more!!

When I joined it automatically asked me about some books, so I rated them, and then added everything from this year.

I love goodreads!
And I love this thread.

I add anything I've ever read...just like to keep track of things. Plus I have a book with all of the books I've read written down in it so I thought having it all in one central location would be better for me.

Anyone read CHANGE OF HEART by Jodi Picoult?
I read it and was very mad at the end but that is how Jodi's books are. Truly she is one of my favorite authors but she might not be right for everyone. I would start with one of her earlier novels because her writing has really grown and matured through the years and it may be easier to follow her later books if you build upon her earlier stuff. JMO, hope that helps!!

allison, i believe the 1st odd thomas book was just called odd thomas. then forever odd, then brother odd, then odd hours. they're all excellent! as far as other series-type books, i used to love kathy reichs cuz her main characters were in all the books, but now i'm really bored of them. very predictable story lines.

i do tend to get a little stressed with series books, anxiously and impatiently waiting for the next in the series. i was truly sad that hp had to end, even though i knew all along it would only be 7 books. this twilight series had me feeling a little sad, but not as bad as hp. did the 3 extra books (than the 4 twilight books) make me more attached to harry? probably.

at least we still have the movies to look forward to. :D

ps...i'm not sure i like the edward in the movie. he played cedric diggory in hp 4 & 5 (in flashbacks) and i wasn't crazy about him then. but i shall wait with baited breath to make my final decision when it comes out.

does he have an accent in real life? cuz he had one in hp didn't he? i don't picture edward having one.

Now debating over The Host.
I hear this book is a little slow at first but also very good, just totally different. I have it to read but am waiting a bit between BD and this.

Just finished BEAUTIFUL BOY by David Sheff....the father's book from TWEAK. Riveting but hard to read as a parent.
I'm going to read both of these books too. So you think you should read the dad's perspective first or the sons? I'm sure I will be shocked at what I was doing to my body for a few years. YIKES! Yeah for recovery!

this twilight series had me feeling a little sad, but not as bad as hp
I'm still feeling a bit depressed today over the end of Twilight. Had the same feelings at the end of HP too!

does he have an accent in real life? cuz he had one in hp didn't he? i don't picture edward having one.
He doesn't have an accent in the movie but he is British from what I've heard.

Ok, my total was way off. I'm actually at 12/20 I'm reading the Libba Bray series now. I'm on the Sweetest Far Thing.
I love series books too if anyone has any other recommendations.

I read TWEAK first...I liked it that way - but I don't think it really matters. The son leaves out a lot of stuff that is in the father's version...just interesting to compare them.

The father's book was more depressing/scary for me so I liked that I read it second.

I openned a thread "Let's talk about books" but Korbyn just told me I should post my request here :

I just finished Lauren Weisberger's last novel, "Chasing Harry Winston" in English please! Lol!!! And I really really loved it !!! So true, so funny and so feminine!
I don't know if you know her, she's the author who wrote "The devil wears Prada"!

So, I would like to read, always in English, "The Devil wears Prada" and her second novel "Everyone worth knowing" but in French, they are written in the 1st person of the singular (I don't know how to say that in English... lol !) and I have a very hard time to read these kind of books because I have the feeling that the narrator imposes me his feelings...
You know what I mean ?

Since imported books in English are rather expensive here, I would like to be sure that these 2 books are written in the 1st person of the singular...

Did anybody read them?
Have you other authors in this style to recommend me?

thanks in advance...
XOXOXO
Armance
