Ok....

I got some vintage aprons and linens. A whole box of them.

I soaked them to get the yellow out of them and any stains. It worked brillantly. Oxyclean worked wonders.

Now, they need to be ironed. What setting should I use. Mostly cotton fabric but one is organza.

Any ideas? I think I should do a very low setting but do I use a towel over it? Steam???

organza.... do it on light... maybe even with a pressing cloth... or just spray it with H2O and lie it flat.

the cotton ones you can do on high/cotton setting... steam will be fine.

oh, so glad you asked this, Traci! I recently got a box of vintage fabric and was wondering the same thing.

Thanks for the info, ladies!

my mom always taught me (and still does it this way) that when it's organza you soak it, wring it (not too hard but of course the organza wont soak up too much water anyway) and then iron on the lowest iron setting possible or else it might shrink. try ironing one corner and check it's gonna be ok-if you see have a feeling it's not-just hang it and it'll smooth itself out.

now, with the cottons, i like to always put a damp cloth over it in case it's the kind that shines when you iron it-i hate when that happens! steam shld be ok too Ü

hth!

Oh - that is good to hear Oxyclean works. I have to handwash some vintage aprons I just got too! I was worried about Oxyclean because I used it on my carpet and it bleached it!

Make sure you dilute it in HOT water first. Then add cold water once the Oxyclean has disolved. I soaked mine for like 8 hours and then put them in the sun to get the final yellow out.

I'll post pics when I am totally done. I wanna see yours too!!!! :)

I used to have a top that was 100% cotton and one day i ironed it and when i did it made the fabric shiny-i dont know how else to explain it. i figured since it was cotton it would be like a tshirt and nothing would happen but it became stiff and denim shiny like. the tag read 100% cotton-but it ruined my top!-so just in case i always put the piece of damp really thin cloth over whatever im ironing just in case. im so mad i cant explain it better =/ sowy
