i finished the kite runner and i loved it.

It's impressive, isn't it? I read it a few months ago and found it to be overwhelming. I am sure I will remember it a decade from now.
Has anyone read his 'other book'? (I guess there are even more, but I mean the other best seller...)

yes...A Thousand Splendid Suns...equally disturbing/gripping/great as Kite Runner, but told from a female perspective.

Just finished Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult and absolutely loved it. The Amish community always has intrigued me and I feel that Jodi did a wonderful job researching before writing this book. This is a great book.

so...
8/30

I need to get my read on! :)

This book is very, very, very disturbing and dark. I'm proud of Nikki Sixx being able to just be honest and I wish him all the best. May he stay sober and stay in the moment for himself and for his children.

I've got to say Joey (my hubby) {who NEVER reads} actually wants to read this. I'll have to let him know what you thought of it.

The last book I remember him reading was about the Fab Five (U of M) dream team....that was a while ago. He'll like it!

I just finished The Jane Austen Book Club, I wouldn't say it was my favorite book of all time, but I enjoyed it:)

That makes me 15/18

I'm thinking about getting the new David Sedaris book or Tracy reminded me of my love for John Irving, so I might pick up one of his (he's good in small doses, after reading a couple of his books you think it's normal to be a prostitute or dressed in a bear suit)

so, i've read 3 books since i've gotten done with my semester of school. :) i read a series by a religious fiction author, Wanda Brunsteter. My grandma likes these books and has gotten me hooked on them as well. they are about the amish.

Anyway, now i'm reading "Harvesting the Heart" by jody picoult.

very good, but i don't feel like the author explained why arthur blume chose to kill nada. maybe there were underlying reasons that i didn't pick up, but i just don't know why

allison - i don't remember, but it thought b/c she figured out he was in her house? no?

i read two very different books but would recommend both:
What Remains by Carole Radziwill (memoir ) &
By Bread Alone by Sarah Kate Lynch

B&N has some fierce clearance deals right now - if you don't have a store, check it online :)

allison - i don't remember, but it thought b/c she figured out he was in her house? no?

that kinda makes sense to me.
i still have it from the library, so i think i'm going to re-read it.
it was one of those books that i wanted so badly to finish it, because i wanted to know what happened in the end, that i don't think i let the words actually sink in.

and, finished the golden compass by phillip pullman.
i was afraid that i wouldn't like it, since i don't know if any 'magical' series could ever stand up to harry potter.
i did like it, in a different way.
so i am + 27/50

Update 23/40

Read The Quilter's Legacy by Jennifer Chiaverini. Turns out I began with number 5 in the series (story of my life), but I'll go back and read the other four and then go forward. It was a good summer read.

Oh and I'm reading a wonderful book right now... it's called 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society', by Mary Ann Shaffer.
It's 'a lighthearted epistolary novel' and I just can't put it away. Events take place in 1946, so just after the war in England and Guernsey.

I was sad to hear that the author died earlier this year.
