I've been slacking on my reading, started a couple klunkers that I returned to the library.

But...I started a good one last night THE FINDER by Colin Harrison...very suspenseful and it kept me up reading too late.

Now I have a bazillion things to do today and it's all I can think about.

It was reviewed in Ent. Weekly - which is where I get a lot of book titles.

rhi, i finished duma key by stephen king. so that makes my total 6 for the year so far.

it was a pretty good book. it had some slow parts but just enough to keep you going. and the last part took a while, the characters had something complex to do, and it seemed as though the main guy kept slowing them down, but he was the one with the answers to why they had to do what they had to do.

but still, a good book! along the lines of bag of bones (one of my faves).

anyone read wicked and son of a witch by gregory maquire? i always see it at BN and always pick it up and always read a paragraph or two and then always put it right back down.

would these books be something you'd recommend to someone who doesn't particularly like or hate the wizard of oz? i don't hate it, i don't like it...i 'nothing' it. lol

mel- pm'ing you right now. that book was super creepy and i had a hard time wrapping my mind around the end. like, i COULD NOT believe it.

i ran to the library today and picked up 3 new books
- lessons from a dead girl- jo knowles
- the great expectations school- dan brown
- our school- joanne jacobs

I was ambivilent to the OZ story as well, I just picked them up because I enjoy some of Gregory Maguire's books (especially Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister). G. Maguire does a terrific job of writing "the other side" of the story!

I loved Wicked - it is darkly humorous and quite entertaining. It took me longer to get into Son of Witch. I didn't enjoy it as much as Wicked.

If you like fairy tales, a bit of fantasy, dark humor and twists on popular stories then you will most likely enjoy reading them.

I have been on a reading frenzy.
I can add 4 more books to make my total 7/35.
I read the three Twilight books...holy cow they were crazy, I couldn't put them down.
I also read Marrige of Convenience? I think that was the name I will have to look. It was a Christian romance and was a quick and easy read. It was in the books a million reading club lineup.

Thanks,
Kerri

I've finished New Moon and Eclipse - couldn't put them down...I read straight through the night! Team Edward. ;)

So, 3/30.

I'm now reading Escape by Carolyn Jessop and Laura Palmer. Very interesting biography, especially with the events surrounding the FLDS raid in Texas a few weeks ago.

+22/50
finished lessons from a dead girl.
it was YA and a quick read. about an hour.
i didn't really think it was good or bad. just ehh....
the author wrote the fictional book based on reports she had read about children abusing each other.
i think that it may have been a good idea, conceptually, but the execution was just ehh...

i'm on a roll +23/50
i read the great expectations school.
hated it.
it was about a first year teacher in the bronx.
i felt like this whole book was a big pity party for him.
i know that going into something like that would be hard, but i felt that there were no positive moments. just 200+ pages of negativity.

rhi, that was a good one. i'll send you the one that came before and the one that came after. :)

allison - i remember feeling the same way about that book. it wasn't about the kids, it was just about him. and he wasn't that interesting. :) he needed to grow up a bit.

bookmark swap update:

i haven't heard from sallyhanna, magst or momajennifer in response to my pm. i sent it out on thursday or friday, saying that if i didn't hear back by june 9, they wouldn't be participating.
hope this doesn't sound harsh, but i don't want to drag this one out.

korbyn did get back to me, and she has had some crazy stuff pop up in her life and feels she can't make the obligation. as a hostess, i appreciate her letting me know, so if it is okay with everybody i would like to go ahead and send her the bookmarks, even though she didn't make any.
i really think that this would be a bright spot in all of the crazyness. if anyone has her address, or has questions or concerns, please pm me.

totally alright with me allison.
and i don't think you were too harsh at all. i did a similar thing at the beginning of the secret swap, and ended up cutting about 8 or 9 people.
don't sign up for things if you don't remember, people!

gasp! you're not suggesting reading a NON edward and isabella book, are you? lol

just kidding!

if i knew, i'd recommend. but you might like the odd thomas books i mentioned in may's thread. it's a bit supernatural, not a lot, but he's a regular kid with a gift. they're by dean koontz.

I love that you and mellymel love her!! I totally adored her books!!

oh had a cool trip to the book store got The Host by stphenie Myer
and a book the girl who worked there sais was just as cool as the Stephenie Meyer books its a series by Cassandra Clare...I bought the first one City of Bones

City of Bones is on my to-read list at Goodreads!!

36/50
Phantom Prey by John Sandford
Love Lucas Davenport and this time Sandford did a great job bringing back one of my favorite people!! I've been reading the Prey series for a long time and sometimes it feels like the author gets burned out and writes a dud, but this one was pretty good!! yeah!!

I'm right there with you scrapprincess! My friend is reading The Host and I am going to read that when she is done. I want something to hold me over till August that is just as good so I will check out the Cassandra Clare book. Let me know what you think of it please!!!

I just finished Running with Scissors. Sick and twisted and I liked it! LOL The rampant pedophilia is a bit much but I liked the way he writes. I'll read more of his books.
That makes me 8/20

I started The Mermaid Chair last night.
Hey, if any of you are on Goodreads than add me as your friend HERE.

thanks scrappinpixie! i missed your post til just now. it's on my list, so maybe once i'm done with the books i'm getting from the library today, i can try them.

speaking of the library, there's an episode of scrubs where one of the janitors says 'lie-berry' instead of library and Janitor says 'it's library, you idiot' and the other janitor (not Janitor) says 'ooh, he's gettin red like a straw-brary' lol

so now every time i say or think library, i think 'lie-berry'.

yes, my brain is wired funny.
