Still reading Confederacy of Dunces, but opened up Sharp Objects, and I'm gonna have to finish it now, I'm hooked. So far, it's right up my alley. Thanks Sonja for PIFing it!

You're welcome, but you might want to make sure there is someone else home before you finish it...it's just a touch creepy.

Hello, I was browsing the thread to see what the requirements are to join. I belong to 2 book clubs currently and am on Goodreads. Does anyone know if their is a group name for the sista's on Goodreads?

I am going to one of my book clubs tonight. The book is Escape by Caroline Jessop. It takes you into the lives of those living in a polygamist community. It's sad to see what they go through but was very revealing and interesting.

The other book we are reading is called "The Condition" by Jennifer Haigh. She is coming to our book club in August. I haven't read it yet and Haven't read anything she's written yet. Our last book was Pillars of the Earth.

Has anyone read any Diana Gabaldon? The first book is Outlander

Hey Cre8art - anyone that is on goodreads has their own profile. I think mine is weebbt, but it might be Tracy.

Anyone can join here!

I've heard of Outlander, but haven't read it yet.

Yes I read it....just Outlander.
It was a while ago.
I liked it enough but wasn't ready to dive into the series at the time.

I'm lpmkate on Goodreads.

To join this club just post how many books you want to read by the end of the year...that's it.
Then when you finish a book list it and tell us what you thought. This is not a requirement but something most of us do. That way we all get new recommendations and titles....or ones to steer clear of!
WELCOME!!

Hey Cre8art!!
I actually have this on my "to read" shelf.
I am in the midst of two different series, so I am not sure I want to start it yet and get sucked into another one!!!

Welcome!!

Um, I totally adored this book and the series up until the last 2 books that is. But don't let that discourage you from reading it!! It is smartly written and you will totally fall in love with the 2 main characters!! I just Outlander for like $4 at B&N just so that I can read it again at my leisure. I gave my original book away to someone....anyway it will sweep you away!!!!

What is your name on Good Reads?

I'm with you, Staci. I loved Outlander and the next two books in the series, but I kind of lost interest after that. It started to get kind of repetitive for me.

Since I read at least 2 books a month I will say my goal is 25 for the year. I've read to date 12.

weebbt, lpmkate, Korbyn, Staci, & cathy thanks for the warm welcome and for the invites to your goodreads sites.

I loved the first 2 Diana Gabaldon books. I am bummed to hear the next 2 aren't as good but its worth reading just to hang out with Jamie some more, lol! Staci, I agree the two main characters are so awesome. $4 for Outlander is a great price. Did you buy it online?

I put in lpmkate on Goodreads and it said it couldn't find you.

well I didn't get to finishing the book, Tuesdays with Morrie. I kinda lost it. But I did finish clean and simple #2. i hope that counts as a book.

I was up until 2 am reading Kindred. I've got to tell you it was awesome. I don't know what it is about books that touch on the unknown but I couldn't put it down. Dana is transported through time to help an ancestor on their plantation. Dana is black, the ancestor is Rufus who is white and the son of an evil plantation owner. Dana 'magically' appears when Rufus is in danger of dying which therefore puts herself in danger by being transported back to a time when slavery was not only accepted but just a natural way of life. You can read more about it through the link above.

I added this to my to-read list because of your mad props, Mel. Staci always knows the cool books to read....guess that's why she makes an awesome librarian!!

For those of you who liked Sharp Objects...I just finished Into the Woods - not quite as creepy but a well written mystery/suspense all the same. :)

I'll be posting the August bookworms thread for Rhi since she is off happily camping.

I'm thrilled that this thread has made it through the year - you gals are awesome.
