I loved Sharp Objects and I loved Life of Pi too. I tried to read Plague of Doves but after 75 pages I thought to myself....life is too short, stop reading this book and move on!! so I did!!
I'm halfway through Good Earth by Pearl Buck - it is fascinating. totally loved this book, thought about re-reading it at some point.
Just finished Plain Truth by Jody Picoult. Not sure what I'm gonna read next...... why Hil, just pick up the next Jody Picoult book you haven't read yet!! You won't regret it :)
plan to start The Friday Night Knitting Club I enjoyed this book a lot. Tried to read her new one but I gave up on it.
Just finished EXILE by Richard North Patterson
It's a meaty thriller about a trial in the US involving suicide bombers, Israel/Palestine mess etc.
Now I have to read this book!! sounds truly fascinating and I have not read any of his books!!

Finished Paging Aphrodite on the weekend - it wasn't anything special, just a fluffy beach read. So let's see... that gives me 1/50!
Read Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates - holy crap. Is this good? I like her, I don't think I've heard of this one though.
I haven't read this one, but I usually love her books. I agree that she is not one to read when your hormones are in a whirl though - they're pretty dark. My favourite was We Were the Mulvaneys.
Right now, I am trying to stick with Ma, He Sold Me for a Few Cigarettes. It's one of those Angela's Ashes types of deeply disturbing childhood poverty and abuse books. It's lacking the quiet humour of Angela's Ashes though so its pretty tough going.
My question for those of you who have read Life of Pi..... (and don't read any further if you are still planning to).
What was your take on the story he told the shipping executives at the end? Was the whole thing an elaborate fantasy on his part, or did you think he was just telling them what they wanted to hear?

kate - i liked that one too - multi generation stories always get me... i also liked the one about the little girl witnessing her mom fall in love with the college student - it was a kinda dark, but i enjoyed the perspective from her eyes.

Mostly I use the library, but I have a slightly waterlogged (all my books are, I read in the bath) copy of Wicked if anyone wants it.

Update 27/40
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
Pre-read this one before recommending it as the next selection for our Mother-Daughter book club. It got a Newberry, and I know they don't hand those out willy nilly, but I wanted to be sure it was appropriate for 8 year olds reading at a higher level (tough, tough!!). This one was very good and I'm going to suggest the girls take it on.

I finished Full of Grace by Dorothea Benton Frank. It is a lighter read about an Italian woman who is in love with an Irish man and all of the family drama surrounding her life; some due to the man she fell in love with (current day time-frame), family dynamics and tragedy. It reads a little bit rough due to the realistic conversational dialog, but it is easy to get through. I also found a primary theme of spirituality to take me by surprise as it isn't mentioned in the description of the book (err, except the title, lol).
So, 9/30 for this 1/2 of the year. :)

Hey Scrapprincess2002,
Just butting in on your question about Wicked! I loved that book!
It's a twist on the story of The Wizard of Oz, told mainly from the point of view of the "Wicked Witch." I thought it was fabulous ....

Finished A Storm of Swords by George R.R martin last night... I almost drove straight to B+N to get book number 4! But, I decided not to, and started Twilight! OMG!! For Real!!! I had no idea it was based near Port Angeles (my grandparents live there) and that made me so excited! But, I read half the book last night!! I stayed up until 2 am!!! I cannot wait to get home tonight and read the rest!! I am completely in love with it so far!!! so, my new count: 28/120

Weebbt,
I have to agree. Wicked was the first book I read by this author and I loved it so much that I read all of his others. Sadly, none of them have been as good as Wicked.
I even got the sequel to Wicked ( the name temporarily escapes me) and I don't think I even finished it....
I hate when that happens!

Son of a Witch was the sequel I believe. Not nearly as good!
Wicked was fabulous! A few parts creeped me out, but it helped the book in general!

Julie, This is my favorite book by Shannon Hale. In fact, she should have won the Newberry Award instead of the Newberry Honor!!! Criss Cross won the Award and I have tried to read it several times...just couldn't. Glad that the girls are going to read it!! great fun for them :)

Safe Harbour by Danielle Steele. Ms. Steele was one of the first authors that I read alot of right out of high school and still like to get in a little of her every now and then. This book was pretty good.
At several suggestions, I'm reading Angry Housewives and love it. I really should be reading now instead of messing on the net though! :)

I haven't read it, I'm going to now after reading this one, but I think I need to wait awhile to give the two some "breathing room", you know?

The Forestwife by Theresa Tomlinson **kids book with a twist on Robin Hood. This is the tale about Maid Marian. Not a bad read.
Crank by Ellen Hopkins
**Absolute fantastic YA book. The content is scary...meth and a girl's addiction. Based on the author's own daughter's experience. I suggest all teens to read this and parents too!!
Currently reading Glass which is the sequel to Crank. Super fast read but riveting!!!!
