Breanne what kind of social work do you do???? I had a few jobs in the SW field after college. Loved them. Stressed out a lot but really enjoyed it most of the time.

I am a victim advocate at a local women and children's abuse shelter. Midnights really isn't that bad. Not much going on. I think I might take up some scrappin' stuff next week. This week I am still training, and don't wanna get in trouble, but I hear you just sit. lol

I come it at 7:00 or there about.
I'm just making myself look busy right now. But my boss can see my computer screens so I have to sit in front of one and put stuff up that looks like I'm working on the other. :)

EXACTLY what happened to me. Once I actually worked in the field I realized it was nothing like I really wanted. I liked it, but I wanted to do more.
I worked in the field for a while so I had a few different jobs. First, I was a case manager for ex-offenders after they were released from jail/prison. Then I ran a JTPA program called Adventure Seekers. We took inner city youth and cleverly disguised career research in fun outings, guest speakers, and hands on experience. LOVED IT! We explored all kinds of careers. The first one was photography. We even learned about crime scene photography. One of the kids was taken aside by a professional photographer and told she had an amazing natural talent for photography. He strongly encouraged her to pursue it as a career and to stay in school to get a good education.
Then I was a Case Manager for a program called Children First. It is a WI program for parents paying child support. We dealt with all kinds of issues as I am sure you probably can imagine. Then I was the Program director for a state childcare subsidy program. YUK!
I am going to school to get a master's as soon as the littles get bigger! I want to be a family therapist with an art therapy degree. What are you getting your master's in?

LOL.. I have so done that before, but fortunately it doesn't matter any more and I can browse all I want just as long as I get the job done.
So I take little sanity breaks here and there.. :)
Hey Tina, I bet eventually you can get alot of scrapping done! Might turn out to be the perfect job :)
Some times when it is slow here at work, I bring in my knitting, its all good :)

It's both. I am paid, but there are volunteers that come in too. I was hired on Tuesday for 18 hours over the weekend, then the next day I was bumped up to 40 hours a week. This week I am working almost 60 hours for training purpposes.

Wow, Traci, that sounds great! I really admire people who go into social type work. I don't think that I could take the heartbreak day in and out that probably comes with it.

Lisa, thanks. It can be emotionally draining. I realized over the years that I can deal very well with emotional stuff. I interned with mentally ill people and saw and heard it all. Doesn't phase me. However, throw a medical emergency at me and I don't do good. I do tears but not blood!!! LOL!

I am around. I have my part day today so I am working from my local coffee shop. Love those days. =)
So I have some work to do but can pop in off and on.
And seriously I am so impressed with you guys who can do the social work. It's so valuable. I would truly suck at it. Thankfully, I can handle blood - with my two boys I have seen a fair share. =)

I am a victim advocate at a local women and children's abuse shelter. tina thats an awesome job. i have considered working with victims of domestic violence.
I am going to school to get a master's as soon as the littles get bigger! I want to be a family therapist with an art therapy degree. traci- you go girl!!! get that masters! i am just looking forward to getting my bachelor's at this point.
i haven't decided what area i want to do after graduation yet. i am interested in adoption/foster care, medical(in a hospital setting) or recovering addicts. i know i DO NOT want to work for the state.
hope everyone is having a great afternoon. 2:10 here. i get off at 5.

i know i DO NOT want to work for the state.
It is funny though because pretty much whatever kind of social work you do, you end up working for the state on some level. I worked in a private agency, but our funding was through the state, so we had to be audited by the state, regulated by the state, and answer to the state. It was almost easier to work for the state and not have the middle man so to speak. Does that make sense???
OH and then I had many clients who would get mad and threaten to report us to the state. Can't do that when you are the state!!! LOL! Then you just hear about appeals! And maybe the occasional writing to their senator! Yes, we had that too!

At work, I have two screens and it is seriously the best luxury. I usually have my email client and the internet up on one screen and then the work I am doing with Visio on the other one. And I have super big screens they are like 17 inches. It is amazing.
Today just my small mac is all.
