What are some money saving tips you can throw out there? I am very curious about this.

Thanks!

Money saving? or money spending in a hidden way?

I have a brilliant plan, but I would never put it into practice because after 5 years of marraige therapy, I am always brutally honest and truthful with my husband......but if I weren't.....here's what you can do. Grocery stores sell all sorts of gift cards now, right? I can go to my local grocery store and buy a Gap card or a Nordstrom card. Well, I have to grocery shop and so when the credit card statement comes in to be paid, it looks like you spent money on groceries, when in fact you get to shop for fun stuff.

Yes it is! Haha too funny!
Ok here's my tip. If you spend all the money...then you won't be able to spend any more. Therefore you save money. Hmmm...maybe that's why I'm always broke!

Take the kids shopping with you--I've been dragging all three with me everywhere since they were born--Costco, Target, the market, the mall--you really stick to your list and have absolutely NO time to browse or try on anything--my goal is to get in, get what's on the list, and get out--they seriously cramp my shopping! But good part is that I don't buy any extras (even when they beg and plead for something, I tell 'em it's not on the list, we don't buy it)!

get what's on the list

yep and pay cash --- if you take cash to the grocery or Target you only buy what's on your list.

Try to avoid Starbucks by making your own coffee. I know this will not work for some, but every little helps. I buy good beans and grind my own. I figure what $ I save doing this, I can spend on scrap supplies!

money saving tips, huh???

WoW! that is a toughie for sure....

I know one of my $$$$$ savers right now is involving my two year old....we are potty training and I am going to TOTALLY skip the pull ups altogether....no way after doing it with the first two kids can I right now justify spending over $10 for a pack of pull ups that you only get like 15 or so in a pack......that is sooo lazy of me to do that....specially if I am home with her all day long, right?? I do not mind changing her panties here and there for accidents and I just will spend some extra time chasing her around making sure that she does not "look" like she hasta go...kwim??? I just htink that if I am home I can save over $50 a month by chasing her and not buying pull ups!!!

I have a few money saving tips.

I subscribe the TheGroceryGame.com
it helps me out with saving TONS of money on my food bill.
Last week, I saved almost $50 just in 1 little trip!!
I cut coupons. Its fun for me to see how much I can actually save!
Also, I plan every meal out ahead of time. Leave the menu on the
front of the fridge and make sure I shop for the ingredients, that way
I don't buy alot of stuff I don't need.

I also pay with cash for alot of things.

SIMPLIFY. Think simple. Seriously. When I think KISS (keep it simple, stupid), I find I am spending less money, have more time, and am more organized.

Like no pull ups. Not needed.

No starbucks. Coffee at home.

If you do laundry every week....why do we need 20 pairs of jeans. (did I just say that?)

Skip the tip about the scrapbook store. After saving money, you go to the scrapbook store to spend it. ;-) {{{evil grin}}}

Diane....I love you!!! Why have I not thought of that!! Hmmmm... ;-)

Try to avoid Starbucks by making your own coffee.

wait. what?? nooooo.... i could never! heh! yeah, that is a pretty nasty little habit there, the Starbucks. :0

If you have an account at Bank of America, you could try the Keep the Change program. Don't know if any other banks are doing that yet. Every purchase on your debit card gets rounded up, and the difference goes into your savings account! I've saved quite a bit over the last couple of years. Of course, it all gets spent during the holidays. Oh well.

Diane's scheme makes me giggle. A few years ago, a grocery store here in town had a *huge* scrapbooking section. My sister used to go and buy "groceries" all the time, and her DH never did figure it out! LOL! (As a sad sidenote, however, they have eliminated that section of the store now. Boo!!)

Aldi's I love it! We save a ton of money there esp. on produce. I'm lucky my Wal-mart will price match their add so I don't have to go to anymore then one store. Also as far as things to do with the kids try to get involved in your community and school. There are a lot of things to do out there with your kids if you just look.

I am not a mom but my mom was a stay at home mom of 7 kids. My mom was amazing in pinching the pennies and I didn't suffer for it at all. However I was one of those kids that liked the handmedowns, the leftovers, and the rements from the sewing department to make my doll clothes.

I know times are totally different but one of the favorite things that my mom and I loved to do was go window shopping. We knew we couldn't afford anything but the experience was something that was just so amazing. But I am so thankful she installed that in me because I LOVE going window shopping and not buying a thing. I call it my "research". I have friends that can not step into a store without buying something.

Also my mom was like the queen of all things ground beef! lol. We made our own pizza, meatballs, meatloaf, meet pies ... the list goes ON. lol. Mom would also measure out the ground beef for the hamburgers so that there was no waste.

anyways... that was what we did.... and so far I am okay! lol

Oh!!! I did this for about a year and then got lazy and I just started doing it again. That game is addicting!

Thanks everyone! This is so inspiring. I currently do work outside of the home, but we are about to have another baby and I am really looking for ways to cut the costs and I know that all of you SAHM's are the people to ask.

I have a 2yr old, but we get our pull ups for free from a friend and I work where a daycare is offered in the same building so oI can go downstairs and "help" potty train. More like go love on her and then take her potty.

I love all of these tips! Very helpful!

Cut cable...we get all the major networks (about ten channels) with rabbit ears and it's free.

The best thing about that for me is...my kids don't see commercials. They only watch PBS shows or DVDs/videos that we have so they aren't begging me for the latest and greatest junk they're pushing on those kid channels.

And our biggest savings...we're a one car family. And our car (van) is paid for. We've never had a car payment. That's a huge monthly savings.

Before you go eat out anywhere, check online for coupons. Start Meal Planning. I save $50 off my grocery bill. I keep a little flat tin in my purse and update my coupons on a regular basis. Section for scrap supplies, groceries, restraunts, salons, everything. Oh try ValPak.com. i am not sure if you have this in your area, but DH and I use it all the time! Hardest one of all, set a budget for your scrappie supplies. $35.00/month, I do it and I am very resourceful with using what I already have.

-we do a weekly menu for the following week every Sunday that way you have shopped for the ingredients and cuts down on eating out 'cause you don't know what to make or have the stuff to make it.
- coffee can be made at home!!!
- shop thrift stores. I personally love browsing through and bought an amazing winter coat at the Sally Ann for $20! be careful here though since things are "cheap" resist the temptation to bring home "extras"
- shop consignment stores for children's clothes or clothes for yourself. This is also a good place to take items and make money having them sell your items for you
- "out of my closet and into yours" party gather some girlfriends and each bring a dozen items to swap
