Is anyone here using Alli as part of their "weight loss solution"? I'm considering it, but I'm afraid of the side effects. Anybody here have an opinion on it?

no way! "the treatment effects" are way to ewww! i copied this from their site.
What are treatment effects?
alli™ works by preventing the absorption of some of the fat you eat. The fat passes out of your body, so you may have bowel changes, known as treatment effects. You may get:
* gas with oily spotting * loose stools * more frequent stools that may be hard to control
What to expect
The excess fat that passes out of your body is not harmful. In fact, you may recognize it as something that looks like the oil on top of a pizza. Eating a low-fat diet lowers the chance of these bowel changes. Limit fat intake in your meals to an average of 15 grams.
Learn more about following a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet.
Learning how to manage treatment effects is an important part of being successful with alli. Here's how to take control:
* Start trimming fat from your diet now, even before you begin taking alli. Then pick a day to begin taking alli, such as a weekend day so you can stay close to home if you experience a treatment effect. Make the timing work for you. If you're getting ready to travel or attend a social event, hold off on starting with alli until the event is over * While no one likes experiencing treatment effects, they might help you think twice about eating questionable fat content. If you think of it like that, alli can act like a security guard for your late-night cravings * You can't "save fat grams" from lunch and "spend them" at dinner. Spread your daily fat gram allowance of 15 grams on average per meal over the whole day * You may feel an urgent need to go to the bathroom. Until you have a sense of any treatment effects, it's probably a smart idea to wear dark pants, and bring a change of clothes with you to work * You may not usually get gassy, but it's a possibility when you take alli. The bathroom is really the best place to go when that happens * You can use a food journal to recognize what foods can lead to treatment effects. For example, writing down what you eat may help you learn that marinara sauce is a better option than Alfredo sauce

Yes I have read that but wonder if you are really eating a low fat diet if it's that bad. They make it sound like if you don't cheat on your diet it won't be a problem...

but, if you're eating a low fat diet, why do you need alli? there's no extra fat for it to block.

Well that is a good point..... :p
It is supposed to block 1/4 of the fat that you are eating and it recomends you eat 15 grams of fat per meal so I suppose you would be eating 15, but only absorbing 11.25grams. Not sure how much difference that would make.

EEEEWWWWWW...
No offense if anyone is taking this stuff but the above description just turned me off. Okay - So you'll be thin but it sounds like nobody would want to be around you so I think I'll save my money on that one......
It's interesting that they say you should have 15 grams of fat a day. I have no clue how much "fat" I eat a day but I think it's probably a lot more - which I know is not good.
It's only January 4th and I KNOW that I have not been eating well. I did not even bother to make myself any promises this year about dieting but I do know I need to start eating better. Alli will NOT be on my menu.........
Thanks for the info everyone........

I went to CVS with my boss she wanted to buy this. We read the back I almost peed myself in the isle from laughing so hard. She thankfully put it back on the shelf. Her husband asked her why she didnt get it and the conversation of her basically telling him the side effects are shitting yourself sent me into another spazm.

That line just sent me into spazms!
Experiencing the "side effects" once would keep me totally in line diet wise. Not quite desperate enough yet to try it.

* You may feel an urgent need to go to the bathroom. Until you have a sense of any treatment effects, it's probably a smart idea to wear dark pants, and bring a change of clothes with you to work
Um this is the line that has me hooting and howling still today...I never knew a diet to recommend dark pants and a change of clothes!!!

Did you make that up or does it seriously say that? OMG!
So what are some situations that could happen if you had "treatment effects" from the drug??
I live in CHicago, my first thought is being stuck in traffic with a "treatment effect" problem! I could just see myself getting that deer in the headlights look on my face!

I was going through the paper this morning and saw and ad for the Alli. It was on sale from $49 to $44.
I thought I was going to have a "treatment effect" from laughing so hard just reading the ad............
Okay - I hope it does not offend anyone who is actually taking this drug but if you are, just be careful. Any side affects should be taken seriously so please think about your health and not the number that pops up when you step on the scale.....

It's 15 grams per meal, not per day. I think 15 grams per day would be close to impossible.

Yes that is actually the diet I am on. I have had a bit of a hard time determining what exactly is "low GI" and what isn't. I've found conflicting information. What guide are you using?
I guess either no one on here is taking this or no one wants to admit to it. I was just wondering if it's really as bad as it sounds. I was taking metformin for my PCOS for a while and it has a reputation for causing GI problems similar to the "treatment effects" described on the Alli bottle, but I never had any problems so I just wondered if this might be the same. It's one of those things that I would rather hear from a real person whose used it than just taking the chance, ya know?

Ok...so I was not loving the sound of it -- but this line jumped out at me and said "Hey SISter...that is tooooo much!"
I had seen the ads on TV and wondered about it -- of course they make it sound good...
and have you noticed how all their ads are very WHITE...white background...people standing in very light surroundings?!?!? Where are these dark pants that they recommend?!??!
Hmmmmmmmm...

My friend used alli to lose weight before her wedding, and it really worked for her ~ she lost a ton of weight (around 40 pounds). It is intended to assist with weight loss, and not to do it completely for you, and so it just helps you lose a little bit more weight than you would have lost on your own.
But she said the most important aspect of alli for her was that it kept her from cheating on her diet (she has tried to lose weight before and failed ~ I think we all know what that's like). She said she never had a single treatment effect because she followed the alli diet (it comes with an eating guide) strictly.
Not, I haven't tried alli myself because I have a lot of lower GI problems & I figure my body doesn't need any more trouble in that area. :( But it really did work for her. I know the treatment effects sound nasty, but they were a really good cheating deterrent for my friend!
des ~ just thought I'd give another perspective

Thanks Tracey! I really can't think of better motivation not to cheat on you diet. I mean the thought process would have to be something along the lines of "Is eating the *insert bad food here* worth crapping my pants?" LOLOLOLOL!
