Well our 'family' resolution is to all go to the gym together. Jake (DH) is a bodybuilder and goes to the gym religiously.. I dont LIKE having to go to the gym and would prefer to walk the treadmill @ home, and Micahla (DD) doesnt do any 'real' exercise. So, thats the plan. All of us, together.. 5 days a week no matter what.
Do you know that 30 minutes in the Sauna, just sitting there burns 250 calories? If you can stand an hour, thats 500 calories!! Add on sauna time after a workout and imagine how many calories you'de burn a day!
Try the bouncy ball instead of the computer chair.. it will work! Ive been doing it for 2 days and feel it already!
PROTEIN! Get in as much protein and water as you can. I put unflavored protein powder in my coffee's and soups. I drink a protein bullet a day (42 grams) and try to fill up on meats and cheeses. I aim for 80+ grams a day. I also need to get in 64 ounces of water a day.
Walking.. ok so, I HATE walking. I always feel like an idiot just walking without having a place to go. I need to work on this this year. I am going to try taking the dogs out more, or grabbing my camera and snapping pictures of whatever I see on my way.
Maybe we can start some kind of inspiration walking/photography challenge. I mean, how many people 'claim' they walk everyday, but really dont. IF we take pictures along the way, we could do like a Fitness Project 365 thing. After our walk, we post the photo to PROVE we actually did our walk for the day. HAH! Dont know if this would work, just my crazy sleep deprived thinking.

I'm in!!
I just did a LO in my journal w/ my weekly exercise goals on it. I will be referring to it daily. And I started a notebook to keep track.
I'm usually good about exercising, but have been slacking lately. I need motivation....other than the "i'd like to get into my skinny jeans" one 'cause it's so vague!
My MIL and I used to check w/ each other...."did you do your situps today?" kind of thing. Helped to have someone watching over me.

Yes, I'm up for actively healthing up my lifestyle. I can't/won't "diet". I have put on way too much weight that way, plus it leads to bulimia issues and head games for me.
Oh, thank you Jan. I'm happy you found a way of saying what I was thinking. Just be careful not to deprive yourselves too much girls, cause your body might act crazy afterwards.
Edited because I had written a long, boring, personal post and it sounded way too judgmental to me, which I didn't want it to sound like.

I think I'm joining in, for the exercise part ! I've finished my sub to a sports club in November, and I wanted to wait a b it for my anemia to be better before I took a new one, but it doesn't seem like the Drs care, so I guess I won't wait any longer (you know what happens when you wait for too long, lol ! ) So I'll go ASAP to subscribe to a club near to work !

Soda is not an issue for me. Diet Coke scares me and I used to have an occassional Coke here and there...but not anymore.
If you are a Coke drinker and would like to stop...read below. I'm not positive that it's all true (just an email sent to me) but the steak thing is...it was done in one of my sister's classes!!
And anyone and everyone can benefit from rereading all the benefits/necessity of water! ************************************************************ WATER #1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population.) #2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger. #3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%. #4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study. #5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. #6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. #7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term Memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. #8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day?
COKE #1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from The highway after a car accident. #2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke And it will be gone in two days. #3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous China . #4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds>Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola. #5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. #6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. #7. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
#1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric Acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis. #2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the Commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials. #3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the trucks for about 20 years!
>>>Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?>>Or Coke?>>>

I must say that reading the ingredients is what stopped me from drinking coke. I used to drink a lot of diet coke when I was on my severe diets, to stop the food cravings, but when I stopped all this madness, I went off the sodas completely.
Now, if I could only do the same with alcohol...(hey, I'm French, give me a break ! lol !)

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww coke. i might try the whole toilet cleaning thing, though!
what i have to convince myself is that soda is not an appropriate breakfast. :P i guess i hate that it fills me up so much better than an apple. apples are like the anti-food. they make me hungry. :P i do love them, though.

(about walking) I am going to try taking the dogs out more, or grabbing my camera and snapping pictures of whatever I see on my way.
Ha! The idea about the walking/photo challenge isn't bad! :) I told my dh we needed to get a dog so we could take it out for walks a couple times a day. (We did this with my son's dog over Christmas in AZ - where, I might add, the temps were a tad more user friendly than the 8 degrees here right now!)
Kate - OMGosh - the coke thing. I'm printing that out for my dh. He does drink a lot of water, but way too much coke. And, I'm gonna send that to my mom. Get this. She - LITERALLY - chain drinks diet coke all.day.long. from the minute she's up to the minute she goes to bed. I do not exagerate! The ONLY other liquid she drinks is a small juice at breakfast. I would imagine the same stuff about coke would be true about diet coke - only worse because of the addition of aspartame, correct? Geesh. And believe me, she is in BAD shape. I could write a novel....
She actually has hired girls that come in (one at a time) all day and do EVERYthing for her. (That's a whole 'nother story - don't get me started.) I'm going to have one of them read her the stuff about all the "wonders" of coke - but not tell her what the product is that does all these great things, right? And then when she asks what the wonder product is - they can horrify her with the truth! If that stuff is only partially true - that's bad enough!

I've never been a soda drinker.....and now I'm REALLY glad I'm not!! (It was the carbonation that I didn't like. That and the calories.)
Yuk! Thanks for that info, Kate. Now I'll never even want to.
Yeah, Jan....the temps here are perfect for going for a walk. Now...I need to just do so! (Actually, I'd rather go for a run.)

YAY for all of you taking on this fitness goal. I went through the same thing the summer after my sophmore year of college. I gained quite a bit of weight those first 2 years at school and I decided something had to change. I started running and have since run 3 marathons and am going to run a 1/2 marathon in April. I wrote a few blogs about starting out and keeping motivated that I thought might be of some help:
Getting Started
and
Staying Motivated
Hope that helps!

this is an anonymous post by a guy who says he's a fireman. "first of all you can do most of these things with any cola not just coke. second,I was a fire fighter for five years and was on several "bloody" accidents no state troopers have coke or any other soft drink in their vehicles unless they are drinking it besides it is not the troopers duty to clean up a traffic accident in any state but to investigate it to find who is at fault."
he went on to say that there isn't a whole lot of blood on the ground. mostly just vehicle fluids and broken glass.
this story sounds much more plausible to me than troopers carrying soda in their trunk. also, around here it would freeze and blow up!

Whether all those coke facts are true or not, it's still much healthier to drink water than ANYTHING else...now if I can just put that plan into action! I totally drink more coffee/diet soda than water.

Mythbusters did a whole "cokelore" episode. Every myth they tested was proven false. They did the steak thing too and found it didn't do anything. They did the rust one too and it didn't work either. I was all, "Oh I know that it is true!" Nope, it wasn't. I love those guys!

It's bizarre...I cannot find anything online about it. I googled all the urban legend sites and couldn't find any of the things listed.
Sorry for the misinformation...but my sister did the steak thing in elementary school. Maybe they've changed the formula since then (late 60s)...but they did it as an experiment and she witnessed it.

Yeah, they did it on Mythbusters too. They left it for a week! Nothin' nada, still the same steak. Dang, I hope they did change the formula. Can you just imagine? Maybe the old formula would melt my fat thighs??? Hey, bring back the old stuff!!! LOL!

We did an experiment in grade school with a tooth in coke. It took maybe a week or two for the tooth to totally dissolve. NASTY! However, it does taste good.

Maybe they've changed the formula since then (late 60s)...but they did it as an experiment and she witnessed it. I am sure they did change the formula. With all of the health craze stuff going on, can you imagine what kind of scandal it would be if it actually did still do this? I have head this many times too by people who had tried in in the past and they said it worked too, so I imagine you are right about changing the formula!

I'm pretty sure a lot of ideas about coke are legends (still, I love the coke/menthol stories lol !), but some ingredients are everything BUT safe (like a lot of other food products that would make you think twice). Don't know about you, but I'm not too keen on ingesting phosphoric acid (and apparently your kidneys might be injured with as little as 2 glasses/day).
Not to mention that the company's policy is generally more than questionable.
So I'll stick to single malt (yeah, lame excuse, I know).
