So I'm in the market for some good dinner ware. I'm really thinking about Corelle. I love the square plates which will look fab with our new 8 seater square table. They're supposed to be really hard to chip or crack and since having kids that is a must. What are your opinions or experience with this brand or do you know of a better brand that is very durable. Thanks for any help.

In my dream world I would have a set of dishes for every single day of the year......... (And bed linens too..... and towels - yeah, gotta have towels......)
I think Corelle is a great brand. They have plenty of fun patterns and they do seem to hold up well.
I think the main thing is to actually LIKE what you choose. If you dont like your dishes, no matter how well they hold up you are not going to be happy. Pick a pattern and go for it. You can always give the little kiddies their own dishes (plastic) until they are ready for the real stuff.
Good luck.........

Currently have: Old Country Roses for fancy Brown flowered china for company. Blue flowered china for company. Other blue flowered dishes for every day. Other brown flowered dishes - mix & match for just snacks, etc. Orange & brown flowered dishes at the camper. Paper plates (of all sizes & patterns) for times that I dont want to do dishes.

Thanks for your comments. I'm going out tomorrow to look at dinner ware upfront. Think I'll start up at Bed Bath and Beyond and see what they offer.
Thanks again.

this isn't much help, but i got a set from big lots that i adore. they were only 1.50 per plate/bowl, but so far they seem really sturdy.

For every day stuff, dont forget stores like Walmart, Target, K-Mart, etc. So many times the more inexpensive plates are prettier than the expensive ones.
I'm just mad because I'm broke right now because if I weren't then I would be out there probably buying Christmas towels, table cloths, etc.

I love stoneware, love fun colors on dishes but had problems with chipping/breaking/getting tired of it. A couple of years ago I got a set by Oneida "Toms Diner" restaurant grade. I don't know if it's still available, but it's all white so I haven't gotten tired of it and not one chip in all this time! Totally impressed.

i've been through several sets of dinnerware - crate and barrel are junk. ikea is good - and several colors and i finally settled on the fact that white is best so i added to my collection with these on sale at Pottery Barn:
du jour dinnerware
have fun looking!

I have a few sets of everyday dinnerware. My main set is my Fiestaware and I LUB it! I have on colorway and slowly plan on adding other colors to mix and match.
I also have a set of IKEA dinnerware and love it as well. It's heavy duty and if something happens, cheap to replace.
