:D
that's my immediate family. but we still celebrate xmess.
anyhow, my dad got a singing bowl from my brother and sister-in-law. we all tried it but my mom was best at getting it to sing.
my dad said, "she's not much of a buddhist but she's sure a good musician!"

OMG! Elly, my husband got me a gift this year from that exact same website. I was thrilled! I love the fact that it supports artists from other countries!

Hah, sounds a bit like my family. My two brothers are agnostic/atheist (depending on which day you ask). So my sons got them upside-down Jesus and Mary night lights as gag presents last year. Elly, you would probably totally enjoy this story: The Upside-Down Jesus Night Light

So..
I hafta ask.
cause I am always about the knowing and learning
growing up..
did you get gifts for Xmas ? Or did your parents celebrate other days (as in Buddha's death/entrance into Nirvana ?) Do you buy your dad puja's as a gift or is that frowned upon ?
I love hearing about other people's beliefs and practices so please pardon the nosey.

We celebrate with my dad's side... sometime in January. My step mom is Jewish... so her kids are Jewish... we are nothing really... so we do festivus. Each year we choose an ethnic food theme... this year it's Mexican; so it's a festivus Fiesta!
but we don't have feats of strength around an aluminum pole.... yet!

hehe.
we celebrate christmas. mostly 'cause pretty much everyone outside my dad is some sort of christian. at least on my mom's side. my dad's side? well... actually now that i think about it i'm not really sure whether they're religious at all. probably, but they're about family more than anything else.
being a buddhist in essence means, judging from my dad's actions, that you teach respect for others more than celebrating the buddha. :D
the reason we went to catholic school was because it was a really good school, not that we were catholic. we weren't baptized until right before we started - it was a prerequisite for going, fancy that. ;)
i love the knowing and the learning, tryn. always feel free to ask anything. :D

Thanks for reading my little story, ladies. My brothers still think those were the best gifts they have ever received, btw.
Your dad sounds pretty cool, Elly!
