i don't have kids, only cats, and so i think that may be one of the reasons that christmas doesn't seem as... christmasy. hasn't for a long time. also being freakin' alone doesn't help either.
are there things about christmas past that you miss?
i miss my grandmother being with us. i miss that excitement of trying to get to sleep christmas eve. i miss even the traveling to rockford. i miss people all getting together. i miss people who aren't around. etc.

I really miss my granny's handmade gifts. The last year she was with us she made me a gorgeous red and white knit tree skirt. Sadly, I couldn't put it out this year for fear of our little pup destroying it. I miss my grandparents call on Christmas morning wishing us a Merry Christmas. I miss getting together with the entire family at Grandparent H's old house.
A huge "Merry Christmas" to you Elly.

i miss being so excited i couldnt even stand it...now im so exhausted i can barely STAND! haha even though i have kids ive had to find my own meaning of christmas and how i want to celebrate it since my family is so crazy dysfunctional. i make candy and hand it out to people at work and do little RAKs for people that barely know me. sometimes the littlest things mean the most. its alot of work but it makes me feel like ive made a difference in someones day.
i miss my gma getting out her old meat grinder and grinding up the leftover turkey and making turkey salad for sandwhiches (they were the BEST!!!)

hmmm....to tell you the truth, I miss the very large family get togethers when I was little when we all got together and opened presents for what seemed like hours! Now it is all about my kids and getting their presents...so us parents are put the wayside...is that selfish that I want to get more presents....LOL!!!!

i miss my aunts and uncles coming to visit - one aunt is so... bipolar that she can't function that well. we had a big get-together planned for thanksgiving but my grandfather canceled it and no one can really figure out why, still. :/

I come from a pretty religious backround, so growing up Christmas was about the birth of Christ. We didn't believe in Santa, although he made an appearance every Christmas Eve to hand out gifts at our family gathering. My kids have all believed/believe in Santa and I've had so much fun with that. I LOVE to see how excited they get Christmas morning to see the gifts he's left under the tree and to see if he ate our cookies. But I really miss how excited I used to get as a child on Christmas Eve to celebrate Jesus' birthday. It was the night that the kids got to take a gift to him and kiss him as my aunt passed around the baby from her nativity scene. I miss my grandma too:/ Merry Christmas Elly! Merry Christmas everyone!

I miss my Mom. She died three years ago on New Year's Day. My Mom always spoiled me for Christmas but I never got anything ON Christmas cause she could never wait.......... I'd start getting presents early and she would always say "This is for Christmas and dont expect anything else.........." Then there would be another present - "This is for Christmas - and dont expect anything else.........." And then another present.... etc, etc, etc.
My birthday is in August. Right after Christmas, I would get "This is for your birthday - and dont expect anything else............."
Yes, - I was spoiled but on December 25th and August 3rd - I got NUTHIN... LOL
I miss my Mom.

I miss the magical excitement I had as a child, waiting for Christmas morning...I miss that my daughter is now a teenager and her "belief" is also gone. I miss my family that has passed on...but, I am thankful for those I still have in my life and that I am happy and healthy and still able to celebrate the season in what ever way I can!

Well, up until about 6pm last night it didn't feel like Christmas for me either, but then, I was nominated (first time in our 50+ year tradition of the family Christmas Eve) to play santa!!! and that changed everything, it was so freakin' helarious, and with over 60 family members gathered around, I was totally having a blast as the first female to play santa in the family! Can't wait to get all of the pictures and see the video of it all!
but, I will say that it has been an off year in general, so the whole non-christmasey feel of everything was very much felt on this end.
I miss the race to the presents in the morning, the excitement of "Santa Was Here!!!", and the general holiday feel. most of all I miss my grandma.
Wishing you all wonderful holidays, and huge Christmas hugs to you Elly!!!

I wasn't feeling particularly Christmas-y until I watched my three-year-old twin nephews open their gifts this morning. Totally hilarious! They both came out in their pajamas, realized there were presents, tossed their hands in the air and screamed, "Santa came!"
After that whole process (3+ hours of assembling toys and playing games) we headed to my parents house where there were no kids at all. A grown-up Christmas has a much different feel to it, that's for sure.
Here's to hoping that everyone found their own reason for the season today.

I miss my husband. we aren't living together right now and it is killing me. we were 1000 miles apart for Christmas this year, literally and figuratively. he missed his son opeing gifts and talking about santa and the reindeer. it has been hard on his whole family. his mom was crying today because he wasn't here.
so, I miss normal. whatever the hell that is.

I miss my family... They live in Malaysia and my brother in Perth. When I'm not with them, I just don't feel the Christmas spirit.
Yesterday, on Christmas day... I ate toast and banana and spring cleaned.. That's how I spent my Christmas.. no real point doing anything when my family aren't around.
I did get to talk to them on the phone.. and that was about it...

I feeling sad cause I have a wonderful Christmas..sad that you guys feel you didn't.......Sorry, it shouldn't be that way...... My family is in SC and we're in AZ. I wasn't really homesick until my s-i-l called and said they were on their way to my mom's for a family Christmas on Sat. Aw man!
I would've been more homesick yesterday, but I woke up physically sick and my mind was occupied with puking in a bucket all. day. long.
Ah well, it's a Christmas I'll remember for sure and hopefully next year we'll make it home for the holidays. Hoping next Christmas is better for all of you.

thinking about you ladies with faraway or distant family!
i miss wigilia (pronounced va-lee-a) it's the polish christmas eve celebration where you have this crazy bazillion course dinner that can't start until the first star appears in the sky.
i used to celebrate it with my polish grammee and grandfather and their family, which is collectively huge. since my immideate family is tiny (now it's my, my mum, my aunt and my grammee) i really miss the craziness of a huge family get-together. i also miss all the traditions, like dressing in red (my grandfather had this crazy head to toe red wiligia outfit that i really miss now that he's gone) and setting an extra place at the table for the family members who aren't there.
there was also this wafer-y cracker thing that kind of looked like styrofoam that we each got one of after dinner and you would walk around the room to everyone and break off and eat pieces of eachothers and wish each other merry christmas and such.

This is going to sound selfish, but I am still posting.
I have my family all within an hour (or 3) My pop pop (who was the centrifical force of all that is good) passed away many moons back, and I pine for him, but I also use Christmas as a time to reflect and rejoice on his life, and having had him in mine.
But I miss those days of my youth When Christmas wasnt just a day it was a season.
When snow actually fell, layed and piled. It caused school to cancel and snowball fights to occur I miss those "holiday specials" you could only see ONCE during the entire year. So you played and played but at 8 pm when you heard that music, you ran and glued yourself to the t.v. and no matter how many years past you watched "A Charlie Brown Christmas" you still felt bad when Lucy called Charlie a "Blockhead"
I miss the taste of homemade hot cocoa. Not the kind from a Swiss Miss pack but the kind loving hands made. warming milk and stirring in cocoa and just the right amount of mini marshmellows
I miss the days when you actually went out to see tree lighting ceremonies and holiday parades I miss going carolling with my older sister, and getting quarters from neighbors even when I sang off key
I miss the days when Christmas wasnt a Commercialized holiday that was all about bigger and better -brighter bolder and techier.

i'm with you elly! the only reason i had off is because the store is closed on mondays in general. when i worked at borders it was the absolutel craziest! the only feeling of holiday spirit was the employees having eachothers backs when dealing with the angry masses. haha.
