So for the past few weeks my boss has been telling me that he wants me to teach his wife how to do my job. I work for a very small ice cream company, and I manage the whole office. I'm the only employee! It's just me and the two owners. And last week they made me wait 5 days to deposit my paycheck because there wasn't enough money in the account. And I don't even make that much! So I finally put two and two together today and realized that maybe there is a reason I am supposed to be teaching his wife how to do my job...
I asked my boss about it and he told me that it's in case I ever go on vacation. But I haven't even mentioned anything about taking a vacation, and I know that the company is struggling financially. I hate jumping to conclusions, but I feel like I may be getting laid off soon. And that's not necessarily a bad thing because I'm not exactly happy at my job, and most of the time I absolutely despise my boss. But I'm so not looking forward to looking for another job! I don't even want to work anymore. I just want to stay home and be a housewife! Don't think FI would go for that, though.
Sorry guys, just had to vent. Any good thoughts and wishes would be much appreciated right now!

just publish your blog.....or write a book like I've suggested before.
Your blog cracks me up.
It's like Sienfeld...about nothing. And look how that did!!
sorry about your job, Shalay. Convice dear fiance that he'd be well taken care of if you can be a housewife!

Ooh that sucks! I think the worst part is that they're just not telling you, very sneaky and dishonest. Hopefully they would give you time to find something else before giving the wife the permanent job.
I kind of feel bad for the wife in this case too... If they are replacing you to save money then she's likely going to be doing the job you don't like but for no money! Your boss seems like a real pickle all around! I hope you find something much better :)

kitleen, that really made me laugh! thanks.
i guess everything happens for a reason. hopefully the reason for this is because there's this great job waiting for me that consists of coming in at noon, chatting with co-workers, surfing the internet, taking lunch, and leaving at 3. i'll check monster.com to see if there's anything that fits that description.

Craig's List is an excellent source to find a job. I haven't exactly been in your position before, but I do know a little about your situation and I know that if your employer gives you a check and ask you to hold it, it's wrong. They shouldn't give it to you until they have the funds. The check would bounce if you deposited it? Then guess what... (I know being a little evil here, but I've seen it done to some of my friends working for a private medical practice, not pretty when it's on a large scale and you depend on that money).. you have a labor claim.
I wish you the very best in finding a job and one that you can enjoy!

lol that's where I found this job! but yeah, i've been looking on there quite a bit lately. seriously, if i don't get laid off i just want to quit because I can't stand it here anymore! and i knew it was sketchy that they wouldn't let me deposit my check. i don't know if i want it to get ugly, though. when i'm done i'd rather just move on and not look back.

That's a good attitude to take and it is exactly what I have done in the past, but just once I wish that some of these horrible employers would get theirs. I feel bad for you 'cause I know what some of my ex co-workers have been through.
Get that resume ready, girl and go hunting. You are better than that!
Also, I found my last job in the newspaper and most people don't think about the newspaper anymore.
