As a follow up to Scrapfairy's thread on "what Christmas treats are you making," how's about we share a favorite recipe or two? I have a couple on my blog so far. Anyone else have a link to a favorite or want to post a recipe on the thread? I am always looking for new ones.
Here are mine: Best Sugar Cookie in the World
Oatmeal and Dried Cherry Cookies
Edited to Add: This one went up on my blog just now: Lemon Poppy Seed Hearts. Complete with picture of last year's cookie extravaganza.

They're good too if you're making up cookie plates for people b/c you can make them very small if you want....the recipe as is makes 4 dozen...but you could make much smaller ones. FYI

I'm not a big cookie person but I do love home made cookies. Our office usually gets a package of home made cookies every Christmas and I'm constantly going back & forth to the kitchen trying every single kind...
I'd definitely be willing to taste test all home made cookie donations..... LOL

Oh man. Snickerdoodles--an all-time fave. I don't usually make those for Christmas, but I recently found an incredible recipe for those. My kids, nieces and nephews were on them like a swarm of locusts when I made them. I'll post that recipe for you sometime.

Okay, here is my share...it's my favorite sugar cookie recipe. My grandmothers best friend, who I called Aunt Grace, made these...she would have me over as a little girl and we would make batch after batch of these cookies, it's a childhood memory I treasure! These arn't rolled cookies and they are seriously so easy to make and just melt in your mouth!
Aunt Grace's Sugar Cookies:
1 C. Confectioner's Sugar 2 C. Flour 1/2 tsp: Baking Powder Cream of Tartar Salt Baking Soda 1 C. Butter, softened 1 Egg, well beaten 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract granulated sugar
Cream butter, add beaten egg and vanilla extract. Sift together all dry ingredients (measure before sifting) and add to butter mixture. Blend. Chill dough. Form dough into small balls. Using a smooth bottomed glass, greased with a little butter and dipped into granulated sugar, press down the balls of dough. The dough is kinda sticky, do this gently. I kinda have to twist the glass a tad to release. I also keep a little plate of sugar so I can reapply!
Bake at 375 degrees for about 7 minutes or so. Until the edges just start to brown.

Monday's recipe: Saltine Toffee Cookies. Have you ever had these? The base is an actual saltine cracker. They are about the easiest cookie in the world to make, but they taste great. People are always surprised to find out they are made with saltines.

OK...got this from Martha Stewart. They look soooooo yummy, I have to make them now!

Surprise Cookies (from Martha Stewart) Makes about 2 dozen
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup cocoa powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1 large egg 1/2 cup milk 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 12 large marshmallows, cut in half horizontally *Chocolate Frosting for Surprise Cookies
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add egg, milk, and vanilla, and beat until well combined. Add reserved flour mixture; mix on low speed until combined.
Using a tablespoon or 1 3/4-inch ice cream scoop, drop dough onto ungreased baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake until cookies begin to spread and become firm, 10 to 12 minutes.
Remove baking sheets from oven, and place a marshmallow, cut-side down, in the center of each cookie, pressing down slightly. Return to oven, and continue baking until marshmallows begins to melt, 2 to 2 1/2 minutes. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Spread about 1 tablespoon of frosting over each marshmallow, starting in the center and continuing outward until marshmallow is covered.
Chocolate Frosting for Surprise Cookies Makes 1 cup
2 cups confectioners' sugar 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1/4 cup milk 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1. Place confectioners' sugar in a medium bowl. Whisk in butter and cocoa powder. Add milk and vanilla, and whisk until well combined.

Today's posted recipe is Chocolate Krinkles. For the rest of the week I have already scheduled posts with recipes for Coconut-Raspberry Delights, Peppermint Meringues, and the Browned-Butter Cookies (the ones that are like Snickerdoodles). For Saturday, I think I will post "S'mores Rockin' Reindeer Cookies," which won some kind of holiday cookie contest last year and were demolished by my kids when I made them.
And I do want that recipe for the York Peppermint Brownies. Three sticks of butter--holy moly!
