So, I'm planning on starting a diet tomorrow (cause it HAS to begin on a Monday) and in the meantime I'm eating everything in sight. Donuts, ice cream, burgers, fries...anything and everything. I realize I may be insane, but am I alone? Any one else with the same mentality out there?

well, I'm normally pretty good at watching what I eat but I had a bad week this week and went off the radar!! I just said to myself as I munched down a Tim Tam that tomorrow I was going back on track so tonight I was gonna enjoy!!

I think we all think like that!

YES!!!! Seriously I thought I was the only one who thought like that!! HUGE part of my problem is that little philosophy! Good luck with the diet. I will be doing the same, very soon.

How are you doing it??? WW?

How are you doing it??? WW?

I'm going to just try to watch what I eat and exercise. Simple right? Not so much. I've been really inactive and stress eating and it's really just a vicious cycle - then I get stressed about my weight and eat more. So...I need to distract myself with some activity and some healthy food for a change. Or like 1 cookie, not 6.

I hear ya.....Had I planned on it, I would join you tomorrow...but since I didn't plan it, I will have to wait till next Monday. :p Seriously though, I am getting a diet book that my doc suggested. Maybe we can do a SIS support group!

I call this "the last supper". It's the whole diet mentality that this is the "last time" I am going to get to have these yummy foods, so I'd better eat them now (and lots of them)!!!!! I totally get it.

"the last supper".
LOL :D

why do I keep buying and making stuff like cookies, sweets, cakes, rice crisy treats????

I don't know what kind of exercise you guys are into, but I fell into an infomercial awhile back called Turbo Jam and truly am doing it 3-5 times a week. If you like high energy - dance - and fun, I would recommend the system. It also helps to have someone to do it with - kind of keeps you motivated KWIM.

I like the SIS support group idea. The more people I have telling me to get off my A$$ the better!!! :D

I am the worst, the minute I tell myself it is time to go on a diet and start watching what I eat, the more I binge.

My diet is starting on the 10th and I will tell you why. I have to get braces on again, AGAIN. I was so upset when I found out, if my teeth were just getting crooked I would say so what but it is screwing up my gum line and causing pain. Anyway, it has taken me 6 months to get over it and finally schedule the appointment to get them back on. I have already had the prelims so on the 10th, I get a serious teeth cleaning and the 12th they go on.

All the adults I know who have had to have braces have lost about 25 lbs because it actually makes you think before you snack (do you want to have to clean your teeth) so I thought I would combine the two together.

So I am all for a support group starting up. =)

My problem is that once I blow it for the day....I decide I'll just start over tomorrow. So, the rest of the day is free and clear to continue being bad. Of course, that seems to happen about.....every day! ;-)

j/k....kinda.

i know what mentality you're talking about, though.

And weekends...I say to myself, "Self, we all know we eat differently on weekends, so those cookies are okay. Just no more come Monday." Like the calories don't count 'cause it's the weekend or something! ugh!

I've actually been thinking about doing this support thing for a while. My MIL and I were doing it for situps. "Did you do yours today?" Reminding each other.

So, I was thinking about starting a thread here... but, then if I did that, I'd have to DO IT. So, I kept telling myself, "Self, not until Monday." hahahahha

sorry. I'm tired.

Do we have anyone here who has lost weight and kept it off???

It would be great to have someone who has done it to keep us motivated.

In all honesty, I feel like I will never be able to do it, so why should I try? It would be nice to have someone who has and can remind me that it can be done!

oh hell no. sorry... this is tamale month for me! :D we make them right after Thanksgiving and have them every weekend up until Christmas, and then it's over until next year. not that i'm shoving one right after another into my pie hole, but i figure it's one month out of the year that i can splurge! :)

i'm just keeping up w/ the daily exercise to maintain, until i can add more to my routine & eat better. December is soooo not the month for me to do that!

Yes, T, that's me, too. That's why I just don't can't "diet" anymore - it triggers all sorts of weird mental fireworks. I used to be bulimic and I don't want to end up there again. Since I've quit dieting, I've lost a few pounds and have maintained that for a long time.

I DO want to start walking regularly again and just making healthier choices (hoping my brain won't HEAR that!) I'm not starting Monday, though. At this point, it's the new year for me - like Angie! :) (Toooo funny, girl!) :)

Cannot even fake like I'm going to "watch" what I eat right now.

It's Christmas cookie season!!!

I will be stepping up the exercise though or I'll be in maternity pants before the 25th!!!!

um, already there:) (but not far enough along to merit the actual pants) I swore (and swear) that this time I will better about how I eat, and yet somehow, chips and dip conveniently found there way into my hand this weekend (like all weekend).

Okay, so it starts today!

oooh, I want braces! JK. Two of my kids have cost me about $7,000 SO FAR. I could be driving a porsche. When my oldest doesn't wear his retainer I remind him of that.

oooh! great idea...

are we starting today?
b/c i've already had 52,345,668 hershey's kisses & triscuits for lunch...
i DID eat a grapefruit tho....

& i heard on a segment of the Today show that if you just make yourself work out 2x a week during the holidays it will help tremendously...b/c those calories that you burn just by doing 2x a week you can use as your "fun" calories during all of the holiday stuff...
b/c let's get real...
i'm doing the holiday stuff :)
the cookies, the candy, the cheese (ooh! calcium!!), THE WINE...

yeah...hmmm...maybe i need to go to the gym more like 12 x a week...lol

T, oh that is so me too.

I have been trying to diet and excercise for the last 2 months, hmmm yea didn't work so well. I really need to lose at least 5-10 by middle of Jan. to so I can fit into some pants (i have one pair of jeans now that fit).
We are going to st.louis area for a week to visit DH family. Would really like to be able to actually wear clothes, lol.

I do like food though and it is christams time like everyone has siad, so gees if I would just work out 3xs a week it wouldn't be that bad. I would be happy with that. Heck I even made a journal and that didn't work.

did you use real crosswords? huh????

So let me explain my braces dillema - I had tragic teeth, tragic. Thankfully my father is a periodontist and my orthodontia work was done for free - professional courtesy. I got them on 1 month before high school started and had them until the November after high school ended. Yes, I said that correctly I wore them for 4 1/2 years.

And now 20 years later I am getting them on AGAIN for 18 months. I could just die. I wore my retainer - apparently now they will put in a permanent one because it all has to do with this one tooth that was the b*tch 20 years ago. Ok so pull it, put in a crown - why do this????? GRRRRRR

Thankfully, our work benefits include some for braces that I am allowed to use since technically I have never paid before so I will be out of pocket about $3k I think.

But no telling what we are in for with my boys - seriously crossing my fingers here. This does not bode well for our financial future.

we wound up out of pocket about $3k as well.....my dd is currently going thru the process...about 21 more months and then the retainer...

my neighbor has a permanent retainer too....years after she wore braces and thought she was done! I sure hope that doesn't happen to my dd...

I just got out of my braces, for the third time, in August.

I had them for 5 years (I kid you not) when I was a kid, then didn't wear my retainer. Then I got Invisalign and those didn't exactly straighten my teeth. So back to the Orthodontist I went and got them once again, but this time only for 6 months. I, however, did not lose 25 pounds. Oh well, at least my teeth are straight.

Don't understand the braces thing. Never had them.

I do wish I could wire my jaw shut!!! probably would help me on so many levels.... hee hee j/k

because i DO understand the dieting thing.

I have been really good lately....because I went back to the GD writing-EVERYTHING-you-eat-down thing.

UGH! I can't stand doing it, but it's the only way I am aware of everything I stick in my mouth. And my husband is MR. HEALTHY. And my list is in the kitchen, of course, with the food. Having it there makes me realize hubby will see everything I've eaten for the day. It helps me eat better....and less.

I notice when I get onto a serious good exercise regime, I EAT MORE! Frustrating. I get more hungry and I justify eating more....'cause I just worked out! ha.

No, no - don't say that. It is the only thing keeping me ok with the whole thing. My front teeth are actually straight. It is an issue with the right side of my mouth and this darn tooth they should have pulled in the first place rather than try to correct because it completely messes up the gum line. And the perio work is something that if you start now, you do for the rest of your life so braces are better.

I decided against the Invisalign because I didn't think they would work - glad to know I am right in just getting the silver ones again.

More power to ya T! I'm waiting for the new year! Cliche I know but I can't start right before Christmas! No more kids=no more excuses! I not only need braces (even tho my teeth are straight) but I've been told that I need to have my jaw realigned. My bite is off and it's wearing the enamal off my teeth! LOL only a $30,000 surgery. My insurance would cover most of it tho. They would have to break my jaw and then wire it in a different position. Hmmm...that could work with the losing weight part tho! Maybe they could do give me a boob lift too while they're at it! Haha!

Why not, you'll be in recovery anyway!

My girl had to get an expander really early to avoid the jaw problem you are talking about. That does not sound fun!

Yeah, she had a serious underbite. At the time my oldest was in braces and the orthodontist saw her and said he'd like to check her out. Jeez Louise two in ortho at once!
