3 things to talk about from yesterday.... gabbing sales girls, a crotchety old man, and a coupon from heaven!

after I get my massage i head down to lynnwood to get some shopping done... so... my first stop was paper zone in everett to get some envelopes... that's like saying you need a nail at the lumber store... so they have a ton of them... I get there and noone says hi... i'm walking around looking like the lost customer, having no idea what i'm looking for.. all the while the 4 workers are standing at the counter gabbing....

Still with the "i'm lost" look on my face, I go through the stationery part at least 5 or 6 times... finally i'm so frustrated that they are still standing there talking, i leave....

I get the phone number to the store (thanks to sister) and call to speak with the manager... I got the manager on the first try...

I explained to her that i have been in plenty of times, I work in customer service so i know what is and is not acceptable customer service. I explain to her that I walked around the envelope section about 5 or 6 times and noone helped me... in fact that they were all standing around the counter talking...

she apologized and then gave me some excuse about passing off from the day shift to the night shift... I interupted her (my bad... tee hee!) and said... no matter what you're doing... the customer comes first... you can do the pass off at any time... help the customer... or at least acknowledge the customer and let them know you'll be right with them....

she said... yes... you're right... i told her... not only did she lose my business but she lost my sisters as well. because i was going to buy her envelopes as well. She again apologized and i said... well.. have a nice day...

before i keep going... i should point out that i'm the first person to call a manager when i've had great service too... so i'm not just a complainer...

event 2.... i went to Kohl's (why oh why... ) to get my dad's present... after i found said present i got in line and was waiting patiently while the sales associate was ringing out the person ahead of me (noticing this older couple who was in line behind the girl who was behind me and had been there since i got in line... she came up right behind me). as i got to the counter the older couple cut in line...

I wasn't going to let that go... i said to them... "excuse me she was behind me in line..." older man (not worthy of the title gentleman - cause he was not gentle!) says... no she wasn't... i said yes she was... she had been there since i got in line...

Girl that got cut in front of said... yes i was actually and i was going to let you go ahead of me but you're already there so nevermind.. (she was ticked off)

old man says... well.. there is no need to be rude miss... to the other girl... then turns to me and says... 'you too miss'... that was it... i said... ok.. look. i was trying to be nice... you're the one that is being rude.. she was clearly waiting behind me in line now you're telling us we're rude...REALLY?!"-my fav line.

i paid for my stuff and left... wow...

so with that... i continued my shopping (not sure i wanted to... later would be thankful i did) to Macy's... i found a super cute purse (merry christmas to me) and was going to get it when a lady handed me a coupon and said... "did you want to use this... i'm done shopping so you can have it if you want..." ($10 off coupon!) i was so excited... i thanked her over and over for her gesture... and will pay it forward....

so after the gabbing sales people, crotchety old man, and coupon from heaven... it ended up being a great night...

thanks for letting me share...

the first two rexperiences are sooooo why you will not catch me dead anywhere near a mall or big store from now until mid-january. ugh! and i totally know what you mean. i've worked retail for like ever so i know that everyone has an off day and whatnot but i can not stand when people are all just standing there totally ignoring you. i don't want to be slobbered all over, but at least acknowledge me and let me know you are aware i exist. hehe.

I wish I had the guts to stand up for myself and others like that. Usually I can stand up for others, because I hate people getting picked on and treated badly, but I can't stand up for myself.

I wish I had the guts to call managers....

You are my shopping idol!

i have no qualms about doing it because i am in customer service. i know what's right. and i would have been infuriated had i been treated like that. though i would likely have interrupted those gabby girls and been all, "EXCUSE ME". :D i like a bit of confrontation, esp. when i know i'm in the right. :D

Isn't it amazing how one nice thing can totally negate the crappy stuff? I love that!

You deserved the $10 coupon from heaven. I'm sure the lady who gave it to her received a blessing for paying it forward!

You go, girl. Way to stand up for yourself - I normally stew and get all frustrated. And LOVE the coupon - RAKs have a way of bringing so much joy. :D

Hopefully I'll get better service than Paper Zone at my LSS tonight ... *wink*
