I'm cleaning out Cole's closet and dresser today. He has so stinking much. I take stuff to the Salvation Army or Goodwill but what about the good things you can't possibly part him ?? I have a few tshirts I just can't give away - St Jude tshirts that he has just worn out but I want to save, then I have one very special one. I found the tshirt Cole was wearing when he went to the hospital to be admitted for his surgery. This is the last shirt the 'old' Cole wore - I know it seems strange or maybe weird to be so attached to it - but part of our son changed so drastically with that surgery - things we will never get back sort of died during that hospital stay. the clothes he wore in the hospital after that are all gone - they remind me of how sick he was - but this ONE reminds me of what he used to be. I canNOT part with it.

But what do I do with it, besides keep it? anything cool? any ideas? for now, it'll just be in the box of baby clothes I couldn't give up but I would just love to be able to do something with it - something meaningful.

Currently, I have a box of clothes that I can't part with for whatever reason - none quite the same as yours just sitting in storage.

But I did make a shadow box for my children for their birth and each contains the hat given from the hospital, the shirt from the hospital, a photo and the wrist bands, etc. You could do something like that.

I just have one little one and she is 2. So I have boxed up everything and until I know what the next one will be (which should be in Feb or March) I am going to hang on to them. If this baby is a boy, I will be giving them a way because by the time I have another baby, those clothse will be 6 years or older and I like current styles. 2 or 3 years old is fine, but with a girl, I just gotta have all the new frilly things! ;)

i have one of those boxes of baby clothes that i just can't bear to part with...stuff that was special when each of my three were wee ones...

i haven't really thought of what to do with it until now...

hmm....have you thought of making a little pillow out of that sweet t-shirt? you could back it with soft felt & stitch some hearts & then keep it out for you to see & treasure & remember...
& the shadowbox sounds like a great idea too....

wow...i have tears in my eyes typing this...
i guess it isn't so strange to have feelings about clothes :)
& it seems cole's tee is pretty special

I am saving t-shirts to have made into a quilt. My aunt did that with my cousin's clothes and sent the quilt with them to college. They both LOVED it and I plan to do the same. They can wrap up in all of their memories from home, even though they are far away. (tears)

Julie, I'm doing the same thing. I've saved all my dd's t-shirts in the hopes of one day having a tshirt quilt made for her with them...

that is a great idea - the quilt would be great!! but i don't know how long it would take me to save enough shirts or to make a quilt myself. i did thing about the pillow and that may work better since it's just one shirt for now. oh it's so hard!! lol

and Gigi - you don't even look old enough to have three kids - did you have them all at once? lol

I sell stuff on ebay and donate a lot...but have been keeping stuff to make quilts. Not knit stuff but regular cotton stuff (like dresses and boys button down shirts, crib sheets etc).

I have seen gorgeous quilts made with this stuff. Not a big quilt - think throw size. It's something I plan on doing when my kids are finally all in school and I have nothing but time....yeah right!!!! Or maybe something I'll do and give them when they are older...not sure.

But I do have a few items that I won't be able to cut into ever...favorite things that will turn yellow in a box. One day when I pull out the striped overalls that are 0/3M to show my son (he'll be an adult) he'll look at me like I'm nuts and toss them. Crazy what we save...oh well!!

Ahhh....Julie is doing what I am. (we are somewhat alike, no?!? lol!)

Quilting is my other love. It's taken a back burner lately to scrapping. But, I still have all the stuff and I keep my running t-shirts to make into a quilt, and the kid's special clothes. Someday.....

i love t-shirt quilts, especially if you just do a simple one and use fleece as the back lining. so comfy and awesome. plus, it is something you can use forever!

if you just have that one shirt, you could get those lp or scrapbook frames and put your shirt in that frame.

when my grandfather died, i did that for each of my cousins (who lived with him). this way, they still have that piece of him, and it's on display, not in a box somewhere.

really great ideas, SISters! i have a box of t-shirts my daughter has worn, and am planning to make a quilt for her. would love to use denim for the back, since that is pretty much what she wears every day!

a couple of weeks ago i embellished a little pocket from a pair of jeans she wore when she was about 3. i plan to use it on a layout and insert a tag with journaling.

hth!
