Hi Martha,
or Hi anyone who might have a clue on the subject ! lol !
Do you know if pugs get along well with cats, even if they haven't grown up together ?
We're thinking of getting a pug but he/she would have to put up with 6 or seven cats, and he/she will probably not be a baby as we would adopt one from a shelter...
Thanks a lot for any input,
Helene

My pug and my kitty are best buddies. They run, play and hang out all the time. My older cat is different, she just stays away from the pug.
Mia(our pug) was a baby when we got her, so I guess i'm not much help.
She was lonely, so thats when we got a kitten for her to play with!!
They really are best friends..Milo and Otis is what we call them!!

my sister has a puggle (he is about as much pug as you can get without being purebred!) and she has 3 cats. They all get along great. The cats have all been in the house longer than Mochi, and they just added another dog to the mix who is now the house terror (not a puggle!). hth!!

Mugsy and Pixie both got along great with our kitty Ivo before he passed away recently. Both of them came into our home when Ivo was older. Pixie can sometimes bully her big brother but would never bother Ivo. One thing to watch out for is kitty claws + pug eyes = be careful...if kitty gets annoyed he may try to keep pug away with a swat, because puggies have smooshy faces and pronounced eyes this could lead to an eye injury. Good for you for going the rescue/shelter route :)

Thanks for your input girls !
nanbhack, I'm sorry to hear your puggy's sick ! I hope it gets better real soon.
Martha and Gloria : I've always been taught to do that : my parents (vets and groomers) always said that there are enough unhappy animals around not to get them from breeders. We always chose the most needy, old, difficult, and yes, sometimes hard on the eye animals there was...lol ! Never been sorry about that choice, even though sometimes they need more patience and diplomacy than young kitties/puppies.
I'm glad to hear they apparently get along very well with cats. I've always thought pugs were very "feline" dogs, KWIM ? lol ! But I wasn't sure about their behaviours though, so you've greatly helped me out !
