i've been sick all weekend. you know what that means? thinking. lots and lots of thinking. (along with napping and tv watching!)
so i was thinking i should make a list of goals. i'm not sure what i want to put on there just yet.

what types of goals do you have?

hmmm, my husband and I always say we're going to sit down and write out short term and long term goals, for ourselves, for our relationship, for our family...but we never get around to it (if you want to get really technical, I tell my husband we're going to do it, and he agrees, for the most part)

I do know that is a powerful tool to get it in writing, it's like making a contract with yourself, and you don't want to break a contract (can you tell I had to teach "the 7 habits of highly effective teens" to 9th graders?

so there you have it, no help at all from me:)

Losing weight. It is the monkey on my back. Remember that commercial where the woman had the scale chained to her ankle? Well, that is what I feel like! It makes me feel so bad about myself and I would love to conquer this!

spending less money on scrapbooking stuff. hahahhahha

No really. I want to. It seems to be the one place I am very undisciplined. And I have waaaaaayyyyyy toooooo much stuff. I could scrap for the next 5 years and not make a dent!

1. become more day-to-day organized. as in, get a calendar and keep it in my purse and write things in it. not, buy the prettiest calendar ever, throw it in my purse, and write important things on little scraps of paper and throw in said purse. especially with moving and starting a new semester and a new job. must organize my time better

2. be completly devoted to the boy. put him before me. the *serious* talks of getting married have been becoming more frequent (i.e. we picked out rings) and if we are taking this next step, i want us both to be 19038948904509% sure; and i need to show him that i am

wow- reading over this makes me feel like such a serious grown-up. but it has to be done; and i am so excited about it!

I recall reading that goals have an incredibly high percentage of being achieved if they are written down and posted where they can be frequently seen, so definitely do that! I've also read that when setting goals, one should also state why this is a worthy goal for them to set and how they plan to work towards achieving the goal.

I think goal-setting is one of the smartest things we can do for ourselves, it keeps us focused and it feels SO good when a goal is reached. Good luck!

at this point i don't really have a whole lot of goals. the one crystal clear goal that i have is to own the 20-volume version of the OED. in paper.

As a family we write a list of goals on New Years Eve.

I made a lil exploding box type project last year and inside added a mini matchbook for each individual member of my family.
Inside the matchbooks we wrote down our own life goals for the coming year.
The box has sat on the shelf in our living room all year....noone has opened the box since it was sealed on New Years Eve - we dont know what each others goals are and all will be revealed on NYEve this year.
If we want to share our sucess we will - if not - no worries.

I know I have managed to acheive nearly all of the goals I set myself -there is just one left to go and I still have time to do it before the clock strikes on the 31st!!

Im sure that because we have written the goals down and had a visual reminder it has helped us all try a lil harder. I cant share images of my project because its being featured soon in a UK mag - this was one of my goals :)

Start small with goals that you know you can achieve - you are more likely to suceed.

Good luck!

This thread is inspiring. And writing down that one goal made me feel like I had to do it.

Time to write down goals for 2008 for myself. I think I'll keep it where I will see it most often ~ displayed at my scrap table.

My son actually is required to set a goal for himself in school, then follow up on it (over a period of several months). That's huge for a 7 year old ~~ and here I'm not doing it!! Time to learn.
