Hi guys,
hope you are here to have some fun. I am going to do mini tutorials for four flowers. the challenge is for you to create a layout using at least one flower and post it by midnight EDT Sunday (or at least be there when I get up Monday morning) so I can pick a winner for a fabric and ribbon RAK.

I LOVE tutorials...!!!
I don't use flowers much on my lay outs, but I shall see if I can stuff something in tomorrow (it's late evening here now)
It's all about fun and creating after all!

So let's go with the first flower
step 1
1. cut small circle of card stock or any pp - this is strictly for the base and will not show
2. cut 5-6 pieces of ribbon the diameter you want for the size of the flower - I used 2 1/2. 3, and 3 1/2 inches. The wider the ribbon, the longer your ribbon will be need to be. Sometimes if I want to use the colors in a wider ribbon I will cut it narrower or sometimes I just cut strips of fabric.

step 2
3. layout the ribbons on the paper circle in a crisscross manner varying colors and patterns.
4. You can pin the ribbons or lightly glue them but I just pick the whole flower up between my thumb and fingers holding it securely and begin to jab sew down and up through all the ribbons and the paper. Do this several times making sure to attach all ribbons securely.
5. Add a center - I usually sew buttons on but you can also pierce a hole through the center and insert a brad. if you use a cropadile, be sure to punch the hole smaller than the narrowest ribbon or you will cut the ribbon in half.
6. attach to your layout with adhesive or the brad

step 3
Here is my layout Journey
Optional - it is cool to use ribbons with words or after the flower is made, you can write words on the ribbon petals or use stamps.
Hope you like this - I will be back in a few minutes with the next flower

This is not the usual "flower" flower I had in mind - I actually like this one!!! Thanks Chris! I'm gonna try this out tomorrow, i have a bunch of ribbons I don't use very often - time to dive in that stash!

Here is the 2nd flower
step 1
1. cut a circle the desired size of your flower from muslin or other plain fabric - it is only a base and will not show
2. cover the circle with small fabric scraps - small triangles, rectangles, etc. Edges can be pinked. Be sure to cover the entire circle.
step 2
3. Use pins to temporarily secure the scraps (you could use wonder under or spray adhesive). Ture it over and trim off the scrap edges to the circle.
4. Machine or hand sew across the circle, around the edge of the circle and back across perpendicular to the first line. you can use either straight stitch or zigzag.
step 3
Now you can play, pull the stitches to gather the edges, handsew tiny scraps, or sew 2 or 3 flowers together. I hand stitched small scraps and added buttons on one but went crazy with the bigger one - I layered it on an old Heidi Swapp big flower, added a MM felt flower and other smaller flowers on top, and sewed them all together

Here is my final layout

Here is a very simple ribbon flower constructed from a recycled adhesive tape runner
step 1
Next time your tape runner needs to be replaced, save the middle cog wheel
step 2
cut narrow ribbons to attach either by tying or by folding the ribbons in half, sliding the loop through the cog and pull the loose ends through the loop

here's my layout

Here's my final flower and a wallhanging - I have to admit my fingers are getting pretty tired from typing
wallhanging
1. cut a circle of felt, batting or card stock (used for base0
cut 6 suares of fabric (I used precut 5" Amy Butler fabric that I purchased very inexpensively on ebay)- these made a BIG flower so you might want to use a smaller size square
step 1
2. fold fabric in half and then gather it 1/2 way down in between your thumb and fingers. Sew through and around several times to secure
4. Arrange on circle and pin
step 2
5. sew onto backing - this is a little awkward but just hold securely - you can adjust the petals as you go or wait until you are done sewing - you can rearrange with hand stitching or staples on the under side
step 3
6. there are many center options - I sewed buttons onto the center - be sure whatever you use is big enough to cover the petal stitching
step 4
step6
To finish the wallhanging I dug through my stash and came up with a felt C (attached to a present for me but I think it came from Michaels, a mesh tangerine bag, and some ribbon. I stapled the mesh, flower petals, and ribbon to some heavier card stock for support (actually it is watercolor paper) - you could use chipboard
here's the link

Okay guys, I hope you had fun - I want to see what you can create and remember I am doing a RAK from my ridiculous stash!!!!

chris, these are amazing and completely inspiring! holy moly. it's a great way to use up ribbon with printed words on it, too. it's harder for me to use that instead of just something colorful! thanks so much for the idea. we'll see what i can put together ;)

Good morning,
I am just up and having some coffee. I need to finish up a few layouts for the challenges from yesterday.
I realize that some of my flowers take a while to do so I could extend the time limit for layouts if necessary.
Just let me know via this thread
Chris

anyone who wants to post flower layouts, go ahead - I have plenty more fabric and ribbon to give away so I will hold this open through Friday. I will be going on vacation in a couple of weeks so I want to get the RAKs mailed out before I go.
Play with your fabric and ribbon - I look forward to seeing what you create!

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog, Chris! Heat is gone in Holland, so I'll be back on the computer and SIS (for longer then this stolen minute at my hubby's pc) and I will publish the LO next week. (tomorrow it's my son's birthday - no time then)
Have a happy weekend!
