Really it's like 10 questions bundled together because well that's how I like to do it. I am actually quite interested.

#1. - Why do you blog?? What do you get out of it? Why did you choose to have a public blog versus a private one? Do you care if others are reading it or is it really just for you? How concerned are you with posting personal information on your blog?

#2. - How do you journal? Do you find yourself writing a story to somebody else so that anyone could come along and read it and understand or do you keep it more personal like writing in a diary? Do you change it up?

These two things were in my head today so I decided to ask.

1. I blog as an alternative to keeping a journal (which I've tried but I suck at). It's fun too, adding pics and music and video, etc. I'm mainly doing it for me, but also as a way to keep in touch with family and friends. I know a lot of them read, but they don't comment much. I mean, I don't do it for comments, but it would be nice to know that they are reading. I try to avoid posting personal info or details that could bring on creeps. Like I wouldn't put my kids first and last names and where they go to school, you know? I had it private in the beginning but it was a pain in the butt for people trying to go there.

2. Like I said before, I suck at journaling. I suck at blogging lately too. I tend to write like I'm writing to someone. Dear Diary: type stuff.

Good questions. And a reminder to blog. ;)

I blog because I love to vent and talk and just have a spot for one stop shopping and anybody that has ever been to my blog knows it is loaded .. and I am still adding stuff .. but ultimately it is because I have friends all over that come to my blog and catch up on my moods, my thoughts and whatever else I decided to share ..

what is annoying is when folks go to your blog and bash you, and judge you based off of your "personal" feelings, I mean really now adays you cant say nothing about how you feel, so many folks are always like let it go dont fret, dont let it get to you .. duh .. we know that .. but sometimes people have nothing else better to do. I have thought about making my blog private to be honest with you and if you are not invited then OH WELL .. life rolls on, you know those that come to your blog because they are your blog buddies and you also know the ones that go to your blog just to be nosey and take the smallest thing you say and start mess with it ....

I feel that there are days that I am rewording what I write .. but no more

#2. - How do you journal? Do you find yourself writing a story to somebody else so that anyone could come along and read it and understand or do you keep it more personal like writing in a diary? Do you change it up?

I journal from my heart, I can journal so fast and so easy, because I have this big voice in my head that is just full of stuff and full of thoughts and feelings and emotions..I have a passion for writing so for me journaling is like writing my name .. and it is GENUINE and from the HEART .. and not forced at all .. I am a deep person, I am a real person and so is my journaling .. I have things that I have journaled so deep that I wont even post it here, cuz some folks prally could not handle that .. and so I post the semi-deep stuff .. and I keep the other stuff to myself .. I journal so my kids too can go back and see what mama was thinking and what I thought of them and how important their closeness is to me ..

I just love to write ..

GREAT questions..I had SO SO much more to say but Ima stop at that ..

holla

i blog mainly for my non-scrappy friends and my family. they can come a see what i have been making. it has also been handy for my online scrappy friends that i don't talk to often to see what i have been up to.

i don't really get much out of it, except maybe advertisement for my etsy store(which isn't really a booming business for me lol)

i don't really care if ppl are reading it. i don't put a lot of super personal stuff in it. it's mostly scrap stuff. i actually love to see that somebody has left a comment.

journaling on my los is pretty random. most of the time i don't journal much more than the date. but i have written the journaling to the reader as well as to the subject. pretty random.

good questions tracy!

okay. bullet points in order of q's!

*i think i am the blog generation. i've had one since i was 16, and am now 24. its just something i've always done.
* i've made alot of lovely friends through blogging :) thats one thing i have gained. but also, i choose to try and find glimpses of beauty and magic throughout my day, blogging is just one way of being able to force myself to do that.
*i have a public and a private one ;)
*its for me. its just another form of self expression. i have even been known to make a page or two from some of my blog entries.
*uhhh. i don't know what you mean by personal. as in my home address and stuff? probably not. theres also some stuff i just don't blog about in a public setting - like my marital seperation, or my ongoing physical illness. some stuff i just don't feel i need to blog about - because my blog is fundamentally a creative expression. thats not to say i avoid it completely - i just don't focus on it.
*my journalling is all private. i have dozens of blank, and not so blank journals scattered around the place, with thoughts, dreams, hopes, lists, letters, poems, lessons learned. some of that wil make it into some art journal pages that i make public. alot doesn't :)
*i don't ever journal as if other people will see it. that almost defeats the object of journalling to me.

Great answers -

*i have a public and a private one ;)

that is what I was thinking of doing because I do have a private one for my family and friends. I don't want to be bothered to edit out details like school names and stuff so I keep it private but sometimes I think a public one would be good too. hmm

Good point - funny thing for me - my boys like to look through my albums and they read the mini-albums like board books so I find myself starting to create my albums like board books as if I am telling them a story. We have this set of albums on the coffee table from our disney trip and my youngest will grab one of the books and say "read this to me" - they read them as much as their board books.

#1. - Why do you blog?? What do you get out of it? Why did you choose to have a public blog versus a private one? Do you care if others are reading it or is it really just for you? How concerned are you with posting personal information on your blog?

I started blogging because I wanted to have a way to share all the things I was working on. Beyond scrapbooking, I also quilt, make jewelry, etc. and there just aren't the kind of forums and galleries for that kind of stuff that exist for scrapbooking. I don't know why. So, my blog lets me put all that stuff in one place.

I don't really post a lot of personal stuff on my blog. For me, it's not really a diary, but a place to share my crafty journey (which of course, can be very personal). So the only thing I think about is whether or not to post certain layouts that may have a personal story I don't want to share or a photo that someone wouldn't like of themselves...that kind of stuff.

#2. - How do you journal? Do you find yourself writing a story to somebody else so that anyone could come along and read it and understand or do you keep it more personal like writing in a diary? Do you change it up?

I generally journal so that someone who was an acquaintance would get the story. Though, my feeling about journaling is that it serves two purposes (for me):

1. To express my feelings, reach catharsis, vent, etc.
2. To demonstrate my perspective on a particular photo or event.

In the first case, my journaling is generally written so that I know what I mean and doesn't think about anyone else. In the second case, I write my journaling so that a complete stranger will understand. I should note that oftentimes I find myself doing a mixture of both.

Great questions!

I started blogging when I was a new mom... and used it more as a way to communicate with my family... then a started selling Stampin' Up! (which I have since escaped from... and been deprogrammed) And then I used it as a way to communicate with my customers... Now it's all for ME baby! Of course most of my IRL and interweb pals are crafty types... so I tend to keep in crafty... I am a bit paranoid about communicating about my private/family life now... since there are so many wackos out there that seem to prey on bloggers who get personal... but I love reading those blogs myself... so maybe someday I will become more comfortable with the family talk...

Journaling... well, when I journal I tend to write in a diary style... but I was thinking about starting to incorporate some poetry... I used to write a lot...

Great thread!

I blog because it makes me happy and it's a great way to remember all of the little things going on in my life, especially in the past year and a half since I bacame a Mama :)
I chose not to make mine private because I do have friends from all different states (and a few different countries, as well!) I just make sure not to list identifying information as far as location, etc.

My journaling changes...if it's a page about my little Katie I find myself writing to her, for her to read when she's older. :) If it's a different page subject I tend to just write in general terms, something like "I loved this day because my whole family got to be together" etc. :)

I've been online since 1999 more less. I've had different types of blogs/online presence but now, I blog to keep a journal of my arts and crafts projects and also to share or hope to inspire others. I'll add a few personal items here and there but they're pretty general.. just things that I would share with any other friends/family.

When I journal, I tend to write as if I'm writing to somebody who doesn't know us or if it's my daughter's page, it'd be to her. This way when somebody reads it, they'll get the idea of it or if it's the ones for my dd, it's for her when she grows up. So when she looks at her album she'll always remember how special she was and always will be. For my pages, I write to remind me of the event or feeling I felt when that picture was taken and also so that one day my dd and grandkid(s) can see who and what I've been through.

About the journaling: mostly I find myself addressing the person that is in the picture. I am trying to capture the feeling or the specific reason why I chose this shot, in case we don't remember a decade from now.
So I guess the answer would be 'personal rather than informative'.

The question about the blog is interesting because I am not sure, LOL. I often feel a bit weird when I write like it's a public blog, like I'd have a large audience (which I know I don't!). However, even though I know most visitors are friends, I am extra careful with providing personal info.
Most entries are about scrapbooking.

I have a blog together with my sister too, it's in Dutch and we just write to eachother joking this can grow out to be our debut letter novel, LOL. Like the Groult sisters. ;-)

I LOVE this question since I was a blogger and journaler before a scrapbooker...

I started my blog one day as a place to keep a record of the everyday...
It soon became a place for creative expression and outlet.
I have written poems...stories...songs...daily catch ups...etc.
My blog is an extension of who I am now. I am proud to be a blogger and my heart goes into every single post.
Blogging has brought some wonderful people my way...people I would never have met otherwise.
It has allowed me to find acceptance in so many areas of my life.
It allows people to see the real me because I am better at writing it, than telling it.
I want my blog to be about "where I am" right now...with family, life, thoughts.
I love that by sharing with other's they feel like they can open the door to sharing as well...and that's all you can ask for:)

As for journaling...

I have been doing that forEVER...seriously. I have little boxes full of scratch papers with doodles, poems, books of short stories and songs I have written.
I don't throw anything away that I have written, even if its scratched out.
I started journaling to find an escape from a volatile home life and it has become a staple in my daily living.
Some things I share...MANY I don't...and that's the beauty of journaling...there are no rules!
I journal to be able to look back and see my progression or the lack there of...to show me who I was...and help me find who I want to be. Honest.
I journal so that when I am gone, people don't have to wonder what I was like...they will be able to read and see for themselves.
I journal because I can.

Why do you blog?? I started a a way to share my crafty things. but it has now turned in to a way to figure out my personal stuff with a little art thrown in from time to time.

What do you get out of it? It's a release for me. Once I have blogged it, it's released from my mind and I am free to think of other things. I never know what I'm going to say before I start typing. I might have an idea of a topic, or a concern I want to address, but mostly, I just write until I get it out.

Why did you choose to have a public blog versus a private one? I really don't know. I guess part of me has always been inerested in how others would relate to me. Is there anyone else out there going through my situation? How do they deal with it and function? that kind of thing. So if I get someone that says what I'm saying makes sense to them or that they liked my story, it makes me happy. but I'm happy even when no one says anything, so I don't thrive on the comments.

Do you care if others are reading it or is it really just for you? I don't care if others read it. I am a very open person.

How concerned are you with posting personal information on your blog? I really try not to say where I live, my sons name, things that might give away who I am or where I live. but I don't stress over it.

How do you journal? I am a really bad journaler. I have probably 10 journals that I have started over the past 10 years and I rarely write in them. I use to when I was younger. I would write for hours. but I just can't get it out anymore.

Do you find yourself writing a story to somebody else so that anyone could come along and read it and understand or do you keep it more personal like writing in a diary? this is funny to me, because I have always told a story. my whole life, no matter what i am doing, I feel like there is an imaginary person that I am telling my story to. It's been that way since I was a little girl. So everything I do is pretty muct in story form. but I also assume that the imaginary person knows who I am talking about and was present at the situation being discussed, so I don't do a lot of explaining. does that make sense? lol

Do you change it up? no. I have always done it the same way.

hth!!

- This is funny timing as I just got a blog the other day! A sister suggested it to keep people updated on my Lifebook project. I will probably talk about other things as well but not sure what yet!! I am doing it public as I want other people to be able to go to it and hear about the project. I am not sharing anything reall personal on it, well stuff that I don't care if other's hear about.

In regards to journaling! I keep books for the kids that I just write it from time to time. I am right now using prompts to give me subjects to talk about as I don't want to talk about the same thing everyday and my life is not the most exciting thing in the world. Like right now I am making a list of the top 5 foods I like, and then doing a list of things like that! I have written the story of each of their births! I want them to have this later to look at. I am writing one journal for them both and then one for each of them! Sometimes I write letters to them when I don't have anything to do and I write one and then make copies for each of their books! I trade off giving each one the hand written one!

I blog as a way to release emotions, feelings and just to keep track of my day to day happenings. I get a sense of peace from it because it helps me reflect on my day or emotions. I honestly could care less who reads my blog because it's not for them but for me. I don't post things that I wouldn't tell people.

I actually use some of the stuff from my blog to journal on my layouts. When I am writing I tend to bounce all over the place on the style as sometimes it is reflective, sometimes it's just factual and other times it could be a comment to remember.

i started blogging as a personal diary. i never thought anyone would read my little blog. it was actually quite personal. my family didn't even know about. not that they would read it (See below - LOL)

I then started a second blog where i started posting my scrapbook pages and photos and it became more of a place to showcase my work. most of the people who read my blog are online friends. sadly, my family (i have 5 siblings and a mom and dad) do not read my blog. my dad even doesn't own a computer. my mother-in-law DOES read my blog every once in a while so i don't reveal too much ;)

i do worry about posting details and names and i never post photos of anyone unless it's my immediate family (i.e. me, jamie or sofi). i think when sofi starts school I will probably make it private and make a separate blog for posting layouts/work.

as for journaling - i'm really bad at it. i usually leave it to the last step in my page. usually only a few words. i tend to journal more on digital pages just because it's easier to edit. (Another plus for digi scrapping!) my journaling style changes. sometimes it's purely descriptive. sometimes it's about my feelings/more reflective. depends on the mood of the page.

I blog as a source to write my thoughts and/ or my poems or stories. I choose to make it public to let others see my work and show what God has shown or taught me. I don't really think that anybody has read my blog really. I don't really mind if people do. I don't usually write my most private thoughts on my blog, it's just for creative expression really.
#2. - How do you journal? Do you find yourself writing a story to somebody else so that anyone could come along and read it and understand or do you keep it more personal like writing in a diary? Do you change it up?
My journal is a conversation between me and God. My journal is where I write down all my insecurities and fears to God. Not that I don't pray also but I always feel better if I write it down. I don't show anybody the journal but sometimes to a close girlfriend I share what God speaks to me at different times. I am not very consistent with either my journaling or my blogging but I am getting better.
