I've been thinking of getting this paper trimmer, but is it really worth the 70 bucks? I heard it's hard to find replacement blades.
Anyone have this? What do you think? Or what trimmer do you use?
I have the regular old Fiskars trimmer...had it forever, but it just doesn't seem to have a clean edge cut..even with a new blade.
I'm curious to see what every one else uses!
thx :)

I have the Purple Cow--the one with the guillotine on one side and the rotary cutter on the other. I hardly use the rotary cutter because it takes too much time locking it down and unlocking it when cutting. I like the guillotine side for cutting cardboard/chipboard or when I have to make multiple same sized cuts (like for ATC's) since you can slide this plastic thing over as a paper stop and don't have to measure every time. It does take up a bit of space. The blades are self sharpening so you don't have to replace them. I wish it was heavier because sometimes I pull it up when lifting the arm after cutting. I think I would get a Tonic cutter with just a guillotine. I also have the Fiskers trimmer and it doesn't cut straight anymore either. I think that's because the channel in which the blade runs is too loose -- will probably get a new one when they go on sale because they are so nice and portable. So far, I don't mind the uneven cuts since I usually distress the edges of everything and I'll use the guillotine when it needs to be perfect.

HTH!!! It took me a loooooong time to research and decide which trimmer I wanted--I looked at a lot of scrapbooking message boards and searched for a thread. Tonic seemed to get the best reviews for a table top guillotine trimmers - I waited until the store was having a great sale on trimmers and free shipping :D

Funny, I'm in the same situation! I think I've decided on the Tonic because I've read such good reviews, and the smaller size still seems to be powerful but portable. The tonic is supposed to be self sharpening, too.

I've never seen a purple cow
I never hope to see one
But I can tell you anyhow
I'd rather see than be one

Sorry. Your post title reminded me of that old nursery rhyme. :-P

I have an Xacto trimmer. Bought at Staples or Office Max. $40, lifetime guarantee

Not the easiest thing to tote around, but for stationary purposes, I love it. For smaller stuff, I have a Fiskars bypass trimmer.

with the fiskars trimmer, you just eventually have to get a whole new one (at least, this is what i've found out). replacing the blade just starts to be not good enough...the edge is no longer new...it starts to get worn out...is this making sense?!?

anyways, that's my opinion with the fiskars!
good luck with deciding!

I don't think any trimmer cuts straight. None of mine ever have.

I just use a Martha Stewart craft knife, MS clear ruler and MS self-healing mat.
it works better than any trimmer I've ever used.
hands down.

I rarely use my trimmer either.
It was some expensive one my mom bought at staples, to do my brother's wedding invites with.
I then nabbed it, so I would have one.
However, it doesn't always cut exactly straight, which bothers me.

I would rather just chop it with my scissors and make it obviously uneven, thant to just be slightly uneven. I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to that.

I love mine! I've used the rotary only a few times but use the guillotine all the time. It rocks. We got it on a coupon, so I don't know what to tell you re: price. I have also scouted out the replacement blades so I'm relieved there as well.

I hope you find a trimmer that works for you!

I've tried so many different trimmers! None cut straight. My next move is a craft knife and self-healing mat, we'll see if I can cut straight! LOL

I have the Purple Cow and it is the best cutter I've had...and I've tried all of them. I love it.
If you are thinking of getting the $70 one then it must be the white w purple accent. Am I right?
I tell you this because the one I have is the one that is completely purple and I got it for $33 at Joann's and is the same thing.
