I have tons of plain buttons that I would like to paint on but have no idea what kind of paint to use...do I need to seal them with something like Mod Podge...Help!

I only want to use them for scrapping projects so they don't need to be washable but I want to make sure the paint will dry & not rub off. I've searched the internet looking for some kind of how-to's but couldn't find anything. Would love to see a tutorial for ideas on decorating buttons or if someone knows of something already posted. Thanks for your help.

This is when you scream "LUCY" as loud as you possibly can!!!

She actually told me how she sands buttons and paints them or covers them with different papers to match her layout!

Hopefully she will see this thread and come running!

Oh Lucy!!!!!

Yes dear you can just cover big buttons with paper to match your project, the process is just like you do in chipboards.( it's better if they have one side flat)and you don't need to seal it,just make the holes with a big needle and use as regular button.

For painting what I did once was to use enamel, the same you use for your nails...LOL

And then you can make dots and stripes with a CD "maker.I usually use black.
To do the same thing but with white I use that liquid to make corrections on paper(sorry I don't know the name of it) somebody rescue me here...

I don't know if I have any project on my gallery to show you...I'll try to find otherwise I can cover one here to show you.

Would love to see any examples you have. I need to think "outside the box". I would've never thought of nail polish. I think I'll be playing with buttons tonight. :)

what a fabulous idea....thanks, bythebeach, for bringing this up.

I'm no Lucy!! But, can I add that I found that the Souffle pens, by Sakura, will draw on buttons nicely. And doesn't come off. LOVE those pens. And they come in many colors, too. So, I've doodled on my buttons. I'll see if I can't find an example.

I didn't take a close up picture of the buttons. But, I think you can get the gist of the idea HERE.

The buttons are on the lower left side.

They have to be the souffles. They're expensive for a pack of 10...but, if you use the 40% off coupon at Joannes or Michaels, that helps! I love those pens!

Great tips! I'm going to have to look for some of those souffle pens. I have tried nail polish on brads before but I used a toothpick and it didn't work out that great for me although others have had better luck.

Thanks for the info. I just looked through the webisodes & it's in the one that talks about her Doodle Formula book.
