What do you use or recommend? I have a 2 year-old camera (my starter-SLR) which is a Canon S2-IS. I definitely want a true 35mm SLR such as the Canon 30D or 40D or the Rebel XTi.
I know I'll need a zoom lens (or two!) but not sure what to get. There are so many options!
I need a camera that can zoom in and show great detail, that is not too heavy and is easy to work with. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

i have an old digital rebel. not the XTi my advise would be canon 40D then you won't feel the need to upgrade so fast.
but i know there are some great photographers on SIS and you will get a better comparison answer I am sure :)
Have fun picking out your new camera.

yeah, the rebels are fantastic, but if you even think you might want to upgrade, i would do the 40D as well. good luck picking out a new one!!!

I got the XTi for Christmas and LOVE it! I would love to have had the 40D, but financially could not do it right now. I also use the S2-IS for work and it seems like a good transition.
Good luck in your search.

I finally got my camera on Friday. I ended up getting the Canon Rebel xTi. Unfortunately, it's on backorder so I won't have it in my hot little hands until next week but I'm still excited nonetheless! Thx everyone for your input!

Love the Nikon D40 . easy to use for a beginner dslr. The price is starting to come down a little on it.

I looked into the Nikon D40 as it definitely got a lot of good reviews but the salesperson at Ritz convinced me to get the xTi. the D40 was my second choice since the Canon 40D was out of my pricerange!
BTW, I'm STILL waiting on my camera. Argh! It's supposed to come by the end of the week.

well my thought is... not the xti.. you really dont need the jump in mega pixels from the regular rebel.. and you can take advantage of the HUGE price break ;)

i just got the xti ( ILOVEIT!! ) and i still don't know much about SLR or how to use this fancy schmancy thing but until i decide i want to make a career out of this i think it is all i will ever need
however, i only got the camera body (without the lens kit) and then i got the 50mm lens (hubs did alot of research) which is also plenty for now (at least until i know wth i am doing, lol)

Interesting. I didn't get the lens kit either. I got the 60-300 lens. Sad I have the lens but no camera yet!

Nikon is what I am going to get... I use a "SLR-like" camera now, but I am going to get a Nikon too... I have researched like a crazy women, and I am more comfortable getting a Nikon-though probably an "older" model like the D100 or D70x (or s?? can't remember)
ANYWAY, www.dpreview.com is a great site!
