Lately, I have really been diving into my stash. For my challenge, “stack attack”, I want to see your layout or project featuring stacks of strips of patterned paper, ribbons, embellishments, etc. Let your creativity be free here – pile things up, cluster things together – whatever. I can’t wait to see what you come up with – the sky’s the limit!

Wilna Furstenburg
My thing at the moment is making tags. My challenge is to design a scrapbooking layout that shows off tags. I look forward to seeing your creative takes on this challenge.

Andrea Wiebe
I absolutely love the rich colors of fall! It seems so comforting to me...warm with just a bit of crispness. Adding a touch of lace with these colors makes for a wonderful combination. I can't wait to see your fall layouts using at least two different manufacturers of pattern paper, some lace and October in your title!

Gretchen McElveen

I love using multiple photos on a page. I challenge you to use 10 pictures on a page! Crop them. Overlap them. Stack them. Single page or double page. I don't care how you make it work but I want to see 10 pictures on a layout! Happy scrappin'!

I have been thinking lately about the rhymes in my childhood story books. It is strange how we interpret words and how our own experiences lead us to make so many assumptions.

Below is a story I wrote for a layout. I challenge you to make a layout using the text as your inspiration. I am not going to post my layout until the challenge ends, as I don’t want to influence anyone’s creativity in that way! I can’t wait to see what you come up – and see if anyone’s is close to mine. Is there really someone out there who thinks like me????....HAVE FUN!

“I sparkle with hints of magic, I dream in pink but it never makes me blush... Do you see my true color or do you mask me behind a veil?

Try not to take me at face value, remember the true elements you see that make me, ME...

Wrap me up and keep me safe and warm, don’t make assumptions and never try to stifle my imagination….As that might lead you along the wrong path”

Melanie McFarlin
As a full-time working mom I am SO busy....so my challenge to do a layout all about the things you do in a day. We all have different things that fill our days – from writing business proposals to making PBJ sandwiches – give us a peak into an average day for you!

Lisa Garay
Bright colors rule my layouts, so my challenge is to use all the rainbow colors- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple (or some variation of them) on one layout.

Gigi Kennedy
I think my biggest "light bulb" scrapping moments come when I'm driving in my car with the radio blasting listening to some amazing music with lyrics that hit me right in the heart. I LOVE using lyrics on my pages, not only do I feel like some songwriters have captured exactly the perfect sentiment for what I’m trying to convey, but they also are almost a time capsule of what music was swirling around my head at specific a time in my life. Kinda like, if I scrapbooked back in the 80s I’m sure my pages would be full of the Cure...lol!!

SO...my challenge to you is make a project using your favorite lyrics! Get that music pumping...and get those feet tapping or whip out the tissues (like I do EVERY time I hear John Mayer’s "Bigger Than My Body") and scrap it!

Book Challenge – Becky Higgins Sketch To celebrate the release of the newest Becky Higgins’ sketch book, she has shared a never before seen sketch with SIStv. Design a layout using her sketch and our favorite will receive an autographed copy of Best of Becky Higgins’ Sketches. Also be sure to check out our special interview with Becky from Memory Trends. You can buy Becky Higgins’ Sketches in the SIStv Boutique. All layouts must be uploaded to the "Strut Your Stuff" portfolio by Tuesday, October 16 at 10 pm CDT. Be sure to save it Becky Higgins Challenge. The winner will receive a copy of Becky's new book!

Ali Edwards

In Ali Edwards’ latest book, Life Artist: Scrapbooking Life’s Journey, she writes the following* about her signature phrase “life artist”:

A life artist, most simply, is someone who captures life and creates art.

So much of being a life artists is about attitude. About how you feel about yourself and what you create. It’s choosing to be open to all the wonderful possibilities in creating art that celebrates the life we are living.

Life art is limitless. If you are open, it can take you to places you never would have imagined (even if that place is just within yourself).

Life Art Principles
It’s about being awake.
It means celebrating every day things.
It means letting go of your need for perfection.
It means using words and photos to tell your story.
It means sharing yourself.
It’s about being real.
It’s about documenting, telling, celebrating and experiencing life.
It’s about being open and embracing the process of creating.
It’s about cultivating a lifestyle of creativity and beauty – with you as the creative director.

So, in honor of Ali’s new book, we challenge you to create a layout or project based on the words “Life Artist” or “Life Art”. You have until 10 pm CDT on Tuesday, Oct. 23 to post your layout to the Strut Your Stuff gallery. Be sure to label it Life Artist Challenge. Ali Edwards will then select her favorite and the winner will receive a copy of her book.

Courtney

I am inspired by SO many things. Starting with my photos, the story I want to tell and then "THE PIECE" the one thing that really sparks my idea for a layout.  It can be simple like my new favorite piece of paper.  But sometimes it's more abstract more "out there".  More often then not it's a texture or pattern.  So my challenge to you is to choose one of the following photos above and branch off.  Let the images spark a layout you will treasure!

I am calling my challenge "Inspiration Recycled.” Basically, look through your own gallery here on SIS and pick one layout to use as inspiration for another layout or project.  When you post your “Inspiration Recycled” layout, be sure to include the link to your original layout too! If you’re like me, you will see that inspiration can come from YOU! How cool is that? Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Jody

Jodi I'm issuing a "Bizarro Self-Scrap Challenge". Do you remember the Bizarro Seinfeld episode? It means that everything is opposite. Jerry and Elaine had me cracking up the whole show...so I was thinkin'...
I challenge you SISters to scrap your 'bizarro style' – meaning the 'opposite' of what you normally do. For example, if you usually use computer fonts/embellishments, this time journal in your own handwriting. If you never stamp or use paint on a layout- this time you must! If you NEVER SCRAP WITH PURPLE...you see where I'm going with this.

I hope this challenge pushes you out of your same old ruts or dares you to try something different!

"Well and then he/she said..."

You know me, all about the journaling and the story. So I challenge you this. Not only should you create a layout with (obviously) some journaling on it. But I want it to be hand written journaling. And it has to be hand written journaling by someone else. I know I know...but really. It can be as simple as an autograph on a photo, as complex as a whole love letter from your sweetie from the days of lovie dovie goodness or it can be as sweet and special as some scribbles from your kiddos. Whatever it is, you have to have someone else journaling somewhere on your page. You can also include computer generated journaling or your own story to supplement it all, but make that other person's hand written something pretty easy to see!

The Organized and Inspired Scrapbooker

Each of us have a different kind of space were we create. For some, it is spreading out on the floor in front of the television. For others, we have own room chock full of cute storage jars and shelves. To go along with Wendy Smedley and Aby Garvey’s new book – The Organized and Inspired Scrapbooker, we challenge you to create a layout about your space – even if it isn’t that organized. Can’t wait to see what you create!

You have until 10 pm CDT on Tuesday, October 30 to post your layout to the Strut Your Stuff gallery. Be sure to label it Organized Challenge. The winner will receive an autographed copy of The Organized and Inspired Scrapbooker.

Michelle Tan (October's L'il SiS)

For me scrapping is not just about scrapping only the good things, but also the not so good ones. Life isn't always rosy and scrapping only the good things doesn't give a balanced or real look at my life.

So my challenge to you is to scrap a regret - it doesn't have to be anything super serious if you don't want to. It can be regretting that extra slice of pizza you had or a friendship lost over something silly. I really regretted never wearing my braces to the full prescribed term, so here's my layout about losing the chance to have nice teeth.

Can't wait to see what all of you come up with!

Kelli Darr

My challenge is a little different than the others so far in the boutique celebration. Each of the Fashionistas has so much talent and personality… I want to see how well you know them. So, take a look through each Fashionista’s gallery and answer the below questions. When you think you have all 20 figured out, send me a private message with your answers. Those who get all 20 correct will be entered in a drawing to win the $50 prize package. Easy enough, right? I can’t wait to receive your responses!

1. She has the most albums in her gallery – and every single one of them rocks. Seriously.

2. She’s got paper, she’s got digital, she’s got paper and digital.

3. This girl has white backgrounds on almost all her projects…and if I gave another clue…I would TOTALLY give her away!

4. She rocks the mini books! And has a way with word.

5. Whimsical. Defined.

6. If I could paint like her…

7. Her gallery is soooooo inspiring and apparently we aren’t the only ones who think she is a star

8. She just did the most stinkin’ cute layout about shoes…

9. She recently did a layout about BonJovi

10. Does she scrap about Jack A LOT?

11. She’s a sap and great at multiple photos.

12. She rocks the patterned paper

13. Her photography is amazing and one of her latest items in her gallery makes me want to go to her house and visit

14. A recent layout of hers made me think about what home should really mean?

15. Her scrapping is like a warm quilt...and whoa…the flowers.

16. She just recently made the cutest Halloween candles

17. She makes scrappin’ look effortless…and she scraps 8.5x11’s, almost always.

18. She scrapped a Santa layout in August

19. In her gallery, you can find a lot of fun (perhaps a fun pink felt owl)

20. She just recently posted her Fashionista round robin layout

Top Notch Titles

Lately I've been title focused. I realized I was spending all this time on a page and then adding a title as an afterthought. Then, there would only be room for a few letters and I'd slap a "LOVE" on there and call it a day. When I started scrapbooking my wedding, I realized I was going to either come up with some better titles or be stuck with 20 pages in my album titled "LOVE." So the challenge is this:

1)You must use at least 5 words in your title and it CAN NOT be song lyrics or a quote. That's right. You have to come up with it all on your own.

2) Your title must stand out in a way that it is obvious it is the title. You can't journal on the layout and call the first line of journaling a title. I know all the tricks, people. J

Good luck!

Lucy (Fashionista Favorite)

My challenge is to create a scene or illustration using your imagination. If you need a little help, take your inspiration from a kids book or your favorite fairy tale you remember from your childhood.

To create your scene, paint, stamp, cut up your scraps, use your old embellies and flowers, cut out stickers, use color crayons, gel pens, chalks, watercolors… you get the idea! Most importantly, have fun!

I hope my layout will also inspire you – the title says Memories in Paper.

Book Challenge – Claudine Hellmuth

The inspiration for the palette in this collage, was a pair of socks that I found at a gift shop. I bought them simply because I loved the way the colors went together. Following my theory that you can use just about anything for color reference, I decided to give it a shot and use the sock color palette for a quick cigar box collage.

Before I began, I studied the socks and the arrangement of colors. I noted that the background color was a soft yellow and that allowed all of the other colors to stand as accents without being overpowering. I made sure to do the same in my collages, using the soft yellow as a background in each piece and allowing the pink, lime green and orange to range in dominance as accent colors.

This pair of socks had dark hot pink in it as well. I felt that it was too busy to use five colors. I decided to allow the pink to be a “free color” that could be either dark or light in each composition. When you are using an item as a color inspiration, it should simply serve as a jumping off point and not a rigid guideline. Don’t be afraid to make changes as you see fit. You're the boss and you get to decide what colors to use!

Michelle Ramirez

So, my challenge to you all is to use up that tape.

* gaffer.
* masking.
* scotch.
* painting.
* or any other kind that you have.

Show me a inventive way to use it up. Get grippy if you will.

Below are examples of a few things I did with my excess tape.

On the layout I printed out the photo onto masking tape for an aged look. Take heed if you do this because it takes a bit to dry and not smudge. I love the funky feel it gives off though. Also, I ripped pieces of masking tape for journaling. Quick, cheap and easy.

For that shiny piece of goodness I wrapped a playing card with Silver (i think plumbing tape). It radiates I think and makes the card super flexible too.

So get to stickin' and I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Becca Sutton

It seems like I often get in a scrapbooking rut--always using the same colors, the same techniques and the same supplies to create my layouts. To shake things up a bit, I'll pull something different from my bag or vow to use a product I've been carrying around for a while that I've saved for that 'special' page. I'll be honest--I've bought about twenty different transparency frames from My Mind's Eye and this is the first one I've used! (please don't judge me.) Same with the foam Thickers. Naturally, a BeccaPage wouldn't be complete without a button or two and some sugary sweet jouranling which, by the way, made me cry even more when I wrote it! I know...I'm much too emotional.

So--my challenge to you this week is to pull out that something you've been saving. The 'special page' is the one you're about to create! Don't forget to journal--I find it's often the story behind the photos that mean the most. Try not to use papers from the same collection and/or the same manufacturer--I used Making Memories, Scenic Route, American Crafts & Hambly papers on this single page layout! And of course, throw in a few buttons--extra credit if you thread something through the holes! : )

xoxo,

Becca

Ashley Wren

My challenge is to design a layout of what you are scared of. We always scrap the happy, fun, and even sad events...but what about those little everyday things we are scared of… Some people are scared of thunder, some of mice – you get the idea. Can’t wait to learn what scares YOU.
